About the Department
Foundations Accounting and Investments (FAI) under the direction of the University Treasurer, is responsible for providing investment, financial reporting, budgeting, accounting and corporate governance oversight for seven (7) University-related foundations, the NC State Investment Fund, Inc. (NCSIF), the Endowment Fund of NC State University, the Alumni Association, the NC State Partnership Corporation, nine (9) subsidiary LLC's and a non-profit subsidiary of one of the foundations. Each of these entities provides substantial resources in support of the University through its various colleges. As of June 30, 2023, these responsibilities included approximately 13,000 funds with a combined market value in excess of $2.4 billion and an endowment of $2 billion that will contribute $77 million in spending for fiscal 2025.
Essential Job Duties
The Financial Compliance Auditor position is responsible for reviewing Chartfield Request documentation and attributes across several funding sources, ensuring compliance between financial projects and advancement allocations, as well as serving as the primary reviewer of simple to moderate gift agreements for compliance with regulations from both a financial as well as administrative perspective.

Additionally, this position is responsible for a newly created audit function targeted at internal controls for all associated entities managed by FAI. This will include working on procedures, efficiencies, and accuracy of data.

Additional Responsibilities will include:

  • Handle all job duties related to the review and approval of new financial projects and advancement allocations, including inspection of documents and analysis of attributes, within the Chartfield Request System.
  • Review and approve gift agreements using a combination of systems knowledge and business practices (both internal and external) to ensure compliance. Elevate complicated requests to management as needed.
  • Research and develop financial reports, queries, or other solutions for the unique business needs of the various entities managed by FAI.
  • Collaborate on building out procedures and reporting structure to implement new audit function. Focus on ensuring that financial controls are being observed both internally and externally.
  • Investigate problematic transactions and collaborate on solutions.
  • Train for and serve as a back-up for Advance system updates, testing and report needs. Ensure attributes are in sync with the financial system and in compliance with current business practices.
  • Execute special projects as assigned.
  • Ability to exercise judgment in providing guidance to maintain the reputation of the department and the Treasurer's Division. This requires knowledge of multiple entities as well as various software platforms.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience
Require post-baccalaureate credentials plus 1-2 years experience; a
bachelor's degree and 2-4 years experience may be substituted for the
advanced degree on an exceptional basis.
All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to collaborate and communicate effectively.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including word processing and spreadsheet skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in financial compliance, audit, or related roles.
  • Experience using accounting and auditing principles and practices
  • Experience with PeopleSoft or a similar financial system.
