Primary Purpose of Organization Unit | Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Facilities, Facilities Management comprises of two departments - Facilities Operations; and Facilities Planning and Construction. The primary mission is delivering required services, financial oversight, and providing a liaison with appropriate Federal, State, and local agencies on matters related to planning, constructing, operating and maintaining the physical campus environment. Facilities Management strives to provide a safe, clean, accessible, and attractive environment which enhances the abilities of academic and administrative departments to provide a personalized education experience. |
Primary Purpose of Position | The position works within the Facilities Operations and Maintenance Electrical Department as a journey level maintenance technician. The Electrical Department maintains the electrical infrastructure, systems, and equipment for the University. This position performs duties in the preventive maintenance, installation, maintenance, controls management, troubleshoot and repair of the medium voltage primary infrastructure, secondary power systems, both interior and exterior lighting which includes controls as well as electrical infrastructure that supports chillers, boilers, cooling towers, motors, BAS systems, and refrigeration systems in all campus facilities. Routine work assignments are in the nature or location of needed repair, and assignments involving work of special or unusual nature are accompanied by specific instructions. The technician exercises considerable independence in performance of routine work, but unprecedented assignments are usually coordinated with the supervisor. |
Job Description |
This position is an on-call position. Employees hired in this position are required to be available as designated for on-call hours and to report back to the campus as required to respond to emergency callback situations. Position duties includes but is not limited to insuring the electrical needs of ALL campus facilities are maintained and/or repaired according to the standards set for by UNCP guidelines as well as the NEC, DOL, DOI, State Construction and any other applicable codes and/or guidelines. Work performance is reviewed by inspection of completed work for quality assurance, quality control and compliance with project plans and specifications and departmental work orders. Assist in design reviews of new construction or renovation of both facility and associated equipment. Participate in the tactical and strategic planning for preventive maintenance, equipment system outages and shop workforce development. Performs job safety analysis as required, conducts pre-job briefings for one or more job personnel as directed. Additionals duties include but are no limited to the installation, modification, adjustment, troubleshooting, repair, replacement of electrical equipment and infrastructure within the campus facilities as well as the exterior of facilities and on-site of campus grounds. Digital controls are also used for various lighting systems within various facilities. These systems consist of computer operated hardware with remote processors, and field devices. This position is designated as Mandatory Personnel. Employees whose presence has been determined to be mandatory to University operations during certain types of adverse weather or emergency events. |
