Overview

The Quality (QA) Technician ensures the overall quality of raw materials, work in process, and finished products. QA Technicians support manufacturing by effectively reporting test results and participating in root cause analyses. They may interact with Research and Development, Technical, Manufacturing, Sales, Marketing, Strategic Sourcing, Customer Logistics, Consumer Relations and Suppliers. They test and report results for new, existing, and competitive products.

Qualifications

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

High School diploma/GED or equivalent experience

* Basic math capabilities

* Ability to read gauges, meters, measurement scales, etc. (English and metric)

* Working knowledge of SAP, Manhattan (Avon), and Microsoft Office

* Excellent communication skills

* Excellent attendance record

* Able to work independently, self-motivated, and be a team player

* Organized and detail oriented

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands to successfully perform the essential functions of this position include:

* Ability to work on a laptop or PC workstation for extended periods of time

* Occasional sitting, walking, and talking on the phone

* Continuous standing for long periods of time

* Occasional positioning and lifting of weights from 25-50 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
This position includes a fast-paced work environment with consistent pressure to complete duties as outlined. This position requires the ability to manage multiple projects, recognize and communicate pertinent details, and provide support to multiple internal departments. Many duties are time-sensitive and have strict deadlines for completion.

The work environment:

* is split between lab/office environment and the production floor

* includes high noise levels in certain locations within the plant

* includes high humidity and hot temperatures

* requires PPE in the manufacturing area (shoes, safety glasses, and hearing protection)

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: As appropriate to the facility (determined by Quality Manager)

* Promote a positive culture through clear and respectful communication, teamwork, and respectful treatment of all personnel.

* Read and address email messages.

* Attend and participate in meetings.

* Perform an effective pass down at shift change overs.

* Collect raw material and finished tape samples.

* Receive, review, file, and maintain raw material Certificates of Analysis (CoA) and Certificates of Compliance (CoC).

* Perform incoming inspection to ensure compliance with specifications and / or audit plans.

* Perform testing for work in process such as compounds, adhesives, off coater tape, etc. to ensure compliance with specifications.

* Perform finished product testing to ensure compliance with specifications.

* Accurately record test results on the proper forms and computer systems.

* Perform assigned quality audits -first piece checks (FPC), first article inspections (FAI), In-Process Audits (IPC), etc.

* Assist in monitoring shelf lives and act to disposition expired product.

* Control nonconforming material in SAP, Manhattan, and the physical tagging system.

* Report nonconforming material to management and shift supervision.

* Properly label and store retain samples.

* Submit daily summary reports to plant leadership (managers, supervisors, process engineers, other quality group members, etc.)

* Follow good housekeeping and EHS policies by properly disposing of trash and hazardous waste.

* Complete assigned EHS training modules in LMS system.

* Recommend changes to existing procedures and equipment to improve productivity and accuracy.

* Evaluate samples submitted in association with PSRs/complaints per management instructions.

* Update reports for effective and efficient trending.

* Assist with testing process improvements and new product development at the plant level.

* Assist and support specification updates and improvements (raw material, work in process, and finished product)

* Support R&D by testing and quarantining trial materials

* Assist with corrective action implementations

* Other duties as assigned by the Quality Manager
