ATI is hiring a Met Lab Specialist for our Albany, Oregon facility. This is a Graveyard shift position and typically works 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm, Monday - Friday. The Met Lab Specialist is a technical expert and is primarily responsible for supporting the laboratory operations throughout ATI's Physical Testing Lab to determine product conformance by evaluating the physical properties of the material and support material development work. You will report to the Metallurgical laboratory Sr. Leader and work in conjunction with other laboratory leaders to facilitate various testing requirements.

The Met Lab Specialist will have a high mechanical aptitude and exceptional trouble shooting abilities as you will perform maintenance activities to ensure equipment functionality and reliability. You will operate laboratory equipment such as tensile frames, vacuum furnaces, air furnaces, hardness machines, and milling machines. In addition, you will leverage your interpersonal skills as well to ensure the highest level of customer service is administered to our customers.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare various metallurgical samples by means of dimensioning, weighing, sectioning, and surface preparations.
  • Perform visual appearance evaluations on various tested metallurgical samples.
  • Determine adherence to customer specifications by following written technical instructions.
  • Develop and create technical instructions.
  • Perform laboratory specific calibration tasks to ensure compliance with internal and external regulatory compliances.
  • Use technical skills and background to identify problems and implement effective solutions.
  • Report data to laboratory customers.
  • Serve as a technical expert for area specific laboratory functions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong aptitude for attention to detail in a technical setting.
  • Strong metallurgical testing and/or NDT knowledge base.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical information.
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional groups.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles.
  • Self-motivated.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum of an Associates of Science degree
    • In lieu of an Associate's Degree at least 2 years of laboratory, NDT or destructive testing experience.
  • At least 1 year of experience operating and troubleshooting PLC and HMI systems.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Sole US Citizenship is required.

Preferences

  • Experience in quality or manufacturing environment.
