Job Description
ECU Laupus Health Sciences Library seeks a research graduate assistant to perform duties as part of a three-year National Leadership Grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The grant aims include researching and addressing digital equity in rural agricultural communities, specifically for migrant and seasonal farm-workers. Researchers will examine the prevalence of internet access and devices among farm-workers; the information literacy levels and needs or farm-workers and farmers; the current role of libraries in serving agricultural communities; and whether broadband plans typically include libraries and agricultural workers specifically.

The research assistant will work with a team of researchers and librarians to support both qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis. The assistant will learn methodology and research coding using NVIVO software. The assistant will learn how to conduct interviews and a content analysis as part of the research process. The populations interviewed include farm-workers and public librarians. The research assistant may also participate as part of a writing team that will lead to project-related peer-reviewed publications.




Preferred (Majors, Experience, GPA, etc.)
Library Sciences Program at ECU/ MLS preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will be organized and self-directed. Previous research experience, experience collecting qualitative and quantitative data, and some experience with data analysis is desirable but not required.

Salary is minimum $7800 per year for each of the three project years. The successful candidate does not have to commit to all three years to apply. The position is fully remote though there may be optional conference-related travel.
