Position Summary | The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Budget and Planning reports to the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Administration and serves as a member of Division and Finance and Administration (DFA) Leadership Team. The AVC is the Chief Budget Officer and serves as a resource and support to the senior executive administration of the university on all budgeting activities. The AVC needs to be effective in an environment of collaborative, shared decision making, working closely with fellow members of DFA leadership team, the Provost's Senior Leadership Team, the University Cabinet, and other academic and administrative leadership bodies across WSSU. The AVC works to accommodate processes and technical requirements of the UNC System with consideration of the university's specific needs and in collaboration with other UNC universities. The AVP manages and oversees the budget development, ongoing maintenance, financial analysis, of the University's $199 million budget. This position provides services to the University in budgetary matters involving Federal, State, Auxiliary, Overhead Receipts, Athletics and Student Activities funding. With regard to the University budgets, the office establishes sound revenue projections and establishes allotments which will permit units to operate efficiently. The office is also responsible for reviewing financial transactions to assure compliance with University policies and procedures Federal and State regulations. |

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education | Education: Master's degree in Business, Accounting, or a related field is required. Experience: Minimum of seven years experience in an accounting and fiscal management environment required, preferably in a higher education institution or organization, which includes supervision of at least three years. Position requires managerial ability, knowledge of current business and university accounting practices, excellent analytical ability, good judgment and sound knowledge of statistical research methods and techniques. Must be computer literate with experience using automated financial systems. Must be able to logically plan, implement, and direct administrative programs and activities. Must be able to interact and negotiate effectively with a diverse group of constituencies. |
