Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Writing and Learning Center's mission is to accelerate success for all students through accessible, personal coaching and an array of programs. We offer academic support that matches the rigor of Carolina.
Position Summary
The ADHD/LD Specialist joins the Writing and Learning Center's collaborative team of professionals who help students improve their academic skills. The Learning Center offers in-person, Zoom, and asynchronous coaching and web-based resources to help students succeed at Carolina. Coaches support students as they develop life skills, time-management, reading, test-taking, note-taking, standardized test preparation strategies, and address academic challenges.

This position provides individual coaching to students, particularly those with a history of learning differences, and designs, develops, and leads Learning Center ADHD/LD programming. This position contributes to campus outreach and collaborates effectively with campus partners across the University that are involved in efforts to strengthen success for undergraduate students.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent); for candidates demonstrating comparable independent educational or instructional activities related to tutoring, supplemental instruction, or direction of programs that enhance educational experiences of enrolled or prospective students, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and 3 or more years of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
2-5 years of direct experience in academic support in an educational setting. Experience providing individual academic coaching, support for students with learning differences, and facilitating small group learning at a variety of levels and across academic disciplines. Demonstrated ability to develop rapport and problem-solve with students as well as collaborate within a team.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Master's degree or PhD strongly preferred. Experience supporting students with learning differences in a university setting especially valued. Experience with academic coaching pedagogy, ADHD/LD testing, diagnoses, documentation, accommodations processes, and support strategies an asset.
