The Office of Academic Affairs seeks to enrich the academic success, engagement, opportunities, and skills of undergraduate students in the College of Engineering at NC State University by supporting a diverse learning environment that is respectful of 21st-century engineering challenges. We promote the engineering profession and an understanding of engineering concepts and habits of mind among a broad set of constituents.
Essential Job Duties
The University Program Specialist supports the High-Impact Educational Experience (HIEE) team and reports to the director. The primary objectives are to manage the administrative aspects of the NC State Engineering Career Fair, Engineering Ambassador Program, and other high-impact student initiatives as assigned in the College of Engineering at NC State University.

This is a dynamic role that involves coordinating and enhancing career development and high- impact experiences for students within the engineering discipline in one of the largest colleges on campus. This position leads the organization of bi-annual multiple-day career fairs, manages programmatic initiatives for the Engineering Ambassadors, and fosters partnerships to facilitate meaningful high-impact experiences and student engagement opportunities.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Plan, organize, and execute successful engineering career fairs, connecting students with employers to facilitate internship and job opportunities
  • Responsible for overall hiring, training, coordination, and evaluation of student workers by carrying out supervisory responsibilities following university, college, and departmental policies and procedures
  • Administer and manage the Engineering Ambassador Program and ongoing development of engineering ambassadors to serve as representatives of the engineering community
  • Provide guidance and support to engineering students in navigating career development
    resources, including resume building, interview preparation, and networking strategies
  • Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships with campus and industry partners in
    support of HIEE objectives
  • Consult with the Strategic Marketing and Planning Manager to develop marketing
    strategies promoting the engineering career fair and the engineering ambassador
    program to increase awareness and participation among students and employers
  • Implement and maintain communication plans and marketing strategies including online
    content, event apps, signage, and other promotional materials
  • Order and maintain an inventory of supplies for the NC State Engineering Career Fairs
    and Engineering Ambassador Program
  • Collect and analyze data related to career fair participation, student engagement, and
    post-graduation outcomes to assess the effectiveness of programs and inform
    improvements
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Office of Academic Affairs in the College of
    Engineering by serving on relevant university, college, and department committees, and
    performing other duties as assigned by the supervisor
Other Responsibilities
Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
Bachelor's degree and one year of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

  • Ability to work quickly with acute attention to detail when under pressure to meet deadlines
  • A highly motivated self-starter able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Nimbleness to adapt to operational and work schedule changes as needed
  • Experience in program coordination, event planning, or career services within a higher education setting
  • Demonstrated ability to implement and maintain communication plans and marketing strategies
  • Familiarity with WordPress and PeopleSoft
  • Familiarity with the engineering disciplines and a strong understanding of the needs and expectations of engineering students
