Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR) oversees, develops, supports, and grows UNC-Chapel Hill's $1 billion research enterprise. The offices reporting to the OVCR set strategic priorities for research, manage proposals and awards, provide research infrastructure, identify funding opportunities, develop research teams and partnerships, oversee regulatory compliance, and communicate the impact and value of the University's research enterprise. The OVCR enables research endeavors for faculty, students, and scholars; encourages interdisciplinary research collaboration across campus; and fosters expansion and diversification of the University's sponsored research portfolio by collaborating with foundations, federal agencies, corporations, and the state and federal governments. The Vice Chancellor for Research also oversees multiple pan-University, multidisciplinary research centers and institutes.
Position Summary
The Assistant Vice Chancellor for Clinical Research (AVCCR) will assume primary administrative responsibility for support and oversight of the University's clinical research enterprise including financial management, clinical research operations, and business development. The AVCCR will lead a team that is focused on growing and supporting clinical research while ensuring compliance and will be responsible for the strategic direction and operational activity of the University's clinical research enterprise. Key collaborative partners will be academic departments, UNC Health, and UNC Research Offices on interrelated missions as well as with external partners such as pharmaceutical companies and governing agencies. The AVCCR will exercise such supervisory responsibility as assigned by the Senior Associate Vice Chancellor for Research.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Relevant post-Baccalaureate degree required (or foreign degree equivalent) with three years or greater of related professional experience; for candidates demonstrating comparable professional backgrounds, will accept a relevant Bachelor's degree (or foreign degree equivalent) and five years or greater of relevant experience in substitution.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
* The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of demonstrated leadership experience in strategic planning, building research collaborations, and overseeing operations in an academic, research, or healthcare environment.
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Strong listening and problem solving, relationship building, and conflict negotiation skills.
* Ability to interact and communicate across a broad range of people from senior healthcare and university leadership to entry level clinical research professionals.
* Strong strategic vision that emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach with active involvement of all stakeholders including but not limited to research operations, research infrastructure, research development services, research training programs, and research business operations.
* Detailed tactical understanding and experience with every step of the clinical research process.
* Documented ability to initiate, organize and deliver institution wide clinical research initiatives.
* Ability to develop and implement goals and action plans and oversee multiple projects (i.e., implementation of new software, creating and reviewing policies).
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Ten years or greater of relevant experience is preferred.

Campus Security Authority Responsibilities

This position is designated as a Campus Security Authority in accordance with the Clery Act. This position will be required to report Clery crimes to the Clery Compliance Manager and complete annual training about reporting responsibilities.
