Position Overview

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The primary purpose of the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration is to provide students within the department the skills and knowledge needed to secure jobs and careers in the area of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration. Another purpose is to prepare students to attend graduate school at the Master and Ph.D. levels.

The mission of the Department of Kinesiology and Recreation Administration is to prepare quality professionals in the areas of Sports Medicine, Kinesiology, Physical Education and Recreation Administration, facilitate practical and action-based research and scholarly inquiry. The undergraduate Kinesiology Degree program offers concentrations in Fitness and Wellness, Strength and Conditioning, and Physical Education.

The undergraduate Kinesiology program offers concentrations in Fitness and Wellness, Strength and Conditioning, and Physical Education. The Recreation Administration degree program offers concentrations in Parks and Recreation Management, Recreational Sport Management with Business Minor, Recreational Sport Management with Sports Coaching Minor, and Recreational Therapy. A Sports Medicine program is also offered along with a Master of Science in Kinesiology and Recreation Administration (traditional and Online).

Primary Purpose of Position
The primary purpose of the position is to teach graduate and undergraduate courses in Kinesiology and Aquatics ( i.e. aquatics, lifeguarding, sport, motor control, and other related courses). Conduct research and seek external funding, engage in scholarly activities, participate in department/college curricular and programmatic development. Serve on committees at all levels of the University, serve as an academic advisor, and develop community and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Applicants must provide evidence of
  • an earned doctorate with at least one academic degree in Kinesiology or a closely related field.
  • credentials to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Kinesiology through various modes of delivery including face-to-face, hybrid, and online.
  • ability to conduct and publish original research in the areas of Kinesiology, Aquatics, or other related fields
  • experience in or the potential for seeking and securing external funding
  • experience working with students from multicultural backgrounds and a strong commitment to promoting diversity.
  • professional work experience that includes demonstrated capacity for collaborative engagement with diverse community partners.
  • experience in recruiting, advising, and mentoring students at both the undergraduate & graduate levels, contributing to their academic and professional development.



  • Educational and Professional Qualifications: Possession of an earned doctorate in Kinesiology or a closely related field.
  • Teaching Experience: Experience in teaching at the university level in subjects such as kinesiology, aquatics, motor control, and other related areas. Ability to teach in various modalities, including online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats.
  • Research Capabilities: Demonstrated evidence of capability and commitment to pursue a well-defined research agenda in Kinesiology or a related field.
  • Cultural Competency and Diversity: Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in working with students from multi-cultural backgrounds and a strong commitment to diversity.
  • Curriculum Development: Evidence of experience in developing online courses and programs at both undergraduate and graduate levels in Kinesiology, and Aquatics.
  • Student Mentorship and Recruitment: Demonstrated ability to recruit, advise, and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Laboratory and Equipment Management: Skills in restructuring and utilizing the human performance laboratory and equipment effectively for learning and research.
  • Professional Engagement: Active participation in and certification from professional organizations related to Kinesiology.
