Work Schedule | 6:30 am - 3:00 pm; Monday - Friday (1st Monday in October through last Friday in April). 6:00 am - 2:30 pm; Monday - Friday (1st Monday in April through last Friday in September). Occasional O.T. and weekend hours are possible. This position is designated as 'mandatory' and, when contacted to report to work, the incumbent is expected to reach the campus as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions. |
Primary Purpose of Position | The Grounds Services Technician will assist in maintaining the University facilities in good working order, and maintaining an overall pleasant working, teaching, and learning environment. This position is to support the associated grounds and landscaping requirements due to the development of expanded highly maintained landscaped areas of campus. This includes all procedures associated with turf/landscape maintenance including herbicide, fungicide, insecticide, and fertilization treatments which require the basic knowledge of materials, elemental horticulture, and the skill to fulfill these duties: litter control, weed control, trimming of undergrowth and pruning of trees, rip rap and erosion repair, upkeep of the drainage structures and snow and ice removal along walkways and steps. Based on the needs and demands of the campus regarding lawncare services, this position will also serve as a back-up assistant in different areas on campus as a Floater. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
Required Minimum Qualifications: Some knowledge of grounds keeping procedures is preferred, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. University Preferred Qualifications: Graduation from high school, or completion of its equivalency, and two (2) years of related grounds experience is preferred. |
