Position Overview

Primary Purpose of Position
The Student Engagement and Recruitment Coordinator is responsible for the development, management and implementation of engagement and co-curricular student programming with a focus on prospective, newly admitted and first-year Honors College students at NC A&T.

The Honors College Student Engagement and Recruitment Coordinator will oversee recruitment, admissions and on-boarding activities in the college, ensuring alignment with community values and strategic priorities and is responsible for the creation of new programming and program assessment and success.

This position will support teaching and learning in the Honors first year experience course and serve as a key partner with the Office of Housing and Residential Life to create a vibrant Honors College living-learning community and residential experience.

The student engagement and recruitment coordinator also will play a central role in cultivating student leadership and engagement in the college, working with professional and student staff, and serves as a representative of the college at recruitment and engagement events.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The North Carolina A&T State University Honors College is the unit on campus responsible for creating a series of programming, curricular and co-curricular initiatives that assists high-achieving students excel in their college careers.

The Honors College has grown to over 1000 current students representing nearly every academic department on campus. Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree in student services or a related field.
  • Professional experience managing and developing events
  • Professional experience supporting student recruitment communications and activities
  • Proven ability to work effectively with stakeholder groups from diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrable commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity and inclusion
  • Strong writing, communications and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated familiarity and competence with basic office technologies (email, word processing, social media, website navigation)
  • Ability to use analytics to assess and revise work activities
  • Experience managing concurrent short- and long-term projects

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
  • Two years of professional experience within a higher education setting managing events and/or recruitment activities
  • One year experience supervising or overseeing student employees
  • Experience working with students who are traditionally underrepresented in higher education
  • Experience developing, planning and implementing events to support student engagement and success
  • Experience in use of assessment tools to inform co-curricular and curricular initiatives and programs
  • Familiarity with honors programs or colleges

Required License or Certification
