  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

License/Certification Required
Preferred Qualifications
  • Masters Degree
  • Experience with Supplemental Instruction or embedded tutoring

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Reporting directly to the Executive Director of the Student Learning Center, the Coordinator of Learning Enhancement Across Disciplines/Supplemental Instruction Tutoring will coordinate the day-to-day administrative operations for LEAD/SI tutoring within University Tutorial Services. University Tutorial Services in the Student Learning Center provides content-specific academic support to approximately 2000 undergraduate students annually, including targeted services for students who face unique challenges.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities in each of these job categories include:

Job Category: LEAD/SI Tutoring Operations
  • Coordinate the day-to-day operations of LEAD/SI tutoring in selected subject areas and; ensure the services run smoothly, meeting the needs of students in a timely and professional manner.
  • Create and manage tutor schedules; ensure staffing is appropriate to meet student needs. Ensure that program schedules and changes are kept up-to-date on the website and in the tutor tracking system.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor the work schedule for tutors; maintain log of absences and schedule changes. Manage timesheets bi-weekly.
  • Recruit, select, train, and evaluate qualified tutors. Oversee the onboarding process for new hires.
  • Supervise undergraduate and graduate student staff; provide ongoing guidance and support to ensure quality in tutoring and LEAD sessions.
  • Facilitate training and professional development for LEAD tutors in line with College Reading and Learning Associations (CRLA) International Peer Educator Training Program Certification (IPTPC) standards and practices and the International Center for Supplemental Instruction Accreditation Rubric.
  • Meet regularly with LEAD tutors to assist tutors in the creation of instructional materials and lesson plans that incorporate various learning strategies.
  • Promote the development of LEAD tutors by conducting observations of sessions and meeting with tutors to discuss feedback.
  • Ensure sessions are accurately recorded in the tracking system.
  • Manage staff resources including equipment and technology.
  • Reserve classroom space for sessions.
  • Assist tutors with technology needs.
  • Compile tutoring resources.

Job Category: Academic Success Initiatives
  • Collaborate closely with the Coordinator for Academic Support and Student Success at the Hickory campus, the Coordinator of Academic Success and Resilience (Boone), and the Tutoring Coordinator (Boone) to effectively balance general academic success initiatives alongside course-specific support and efficiently connect App State Hickory students with Boone campus resources when needed.
  • Collaborate with community-designated programs to provide equitable access to Student Learning Center services.
  • Participate in outreach activities including classroom visits and university events that promote the LEAD program and the Student Learning Center.
  • Represent the Student Learning Center as a member of committees; participate actively in student-focused and community-oriented campus activities including outreach/public relations opportunities.
  • Actively participate in Student Learning Center staff meetings and professional development opportunities.
  • Teach Academic Success course section(s) as time permits.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Promote and create a welcoming, inclusive, and collegial learning environment at the tutoring center; assist tutors and students as needed.
  • Respond in a timely manner to inquiries about the center and its services, record concerns as required, and seek informal resolutions that is satisfactory to all parties; escalate concerns to the supervisor when appropriate.
