The BirthPlace Technician provides care of a technical nature to patients admitted to the BirthPlace by performing surgical scrub duties for patients as a member of the surgical team. This individual will also provide clerical support, materials management support, transporting of patients and specimens, and will perform routine unit checks as determined necessary by the charge nurse. The BirthPlace Technician must have appropriate communication skills, and must be an extremely flexible and adaptive individual with a positive attitude toward a rapidly changing workplace. |
Talent Pool: Allied Health
Assists with patient care. Verifies selected data about the health status of the patient with the circulating nurse. Observes patient and alerts RN to symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient's condition. Assists the RN with selected patient care interventions in a manner that is consistent with policies and procedures. Anticipates physician needs/requirements preoperatively and postoperatively. Assists with the surgical process. Performs basic scrub duties and table set-ups for basic procedures. Identifies instruments, checks equipment, and obtains supplies as relates to procedures. Preforms sponge, needle, and instrument counts with circulator. Maintains asepsis throughout procedure; identifies and corrects breaks in sterile technique Collaborates with co-workers to accomplish department/program objectives. Serves as a liaison with the public, serving as a unit clerk when needed. Effectively uses all communication devices within the BirthPlace: phones, patient call lights, and pagers. Able to quickly and efficiently obtain help. Performs routine daily checks for the crash carts, defibrillators, O2 tanks, refrigerator temperatures, point of care testing and others as needed Restocks case carts, LDR rooms, Spinal/Epidural cart, and neonatal care areas per recommended par levels. Performs daily inventory of equipment and supplies in OR?s and BirthPlace. Orders needed supplies. Maintains the LDR and OR rooms in a continual state of readiness for deliveries, C/S or Double set-ups. Removes all drapes and disposes in waste container after checking for instruments. Unused and soiled sponges are discarded in the waste container. Other equipment is removed to the workroom for cleaning Assists the circulator in identification, labeling and preserving of surgical specimens. Contributes to documentation of intraoperative care, intrapartum care and helps assure charges are accurate and complete. |
EDUCATION: |
High School Diploma or equivalent, Required Graduate of a School of Surgical Technology or equivalent military training with surgical technologist experience |
EXPERIENCE: |
Required: 1 year or less in surgical technology field. Preferred: Previous Operating Room experience, with expertise in women?s surgery. |
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING: |
REQUIRED CST Certified Surgical Technologist or Certification eligible. Certifications should come from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting. Must successfully sit and pass Certification examination with 12 months from employment hire/start date. Surgical Technologist hired prior to 12/31/2017 Certification requirement will be waved and grandfathered BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider PREFERRED |
