Position Summary
The Associate Manager of Grants and Research Administration will assist the Manager of Contracts and Grants in the overall management and administrative direction of the Psychiatry Grants Office. This position provides administrative and fiscal support to faculty and staff within UNC Department of Psychiatry. This position manages the accounting, budgeting, and financial reporting of an assigned grant portfolio, with a primary focus on pre- and post-award contract and grants management of research grants and training activities. This position analyzes, interprets, communicates, and promotes best practices in order to meet the overall organizational mission, goals and objectives. This role provides leadership and guidance in fiscal matters, has a thorough understanding of University, State, and Federal policies and procedures to ensure department is operating in compliance, and provides support on financial system issues, if necessary.

The Associate Manager serves as a key liaison with other administrators across campus and must possess the ability to effectively interact with faculty, staff, students and other affiliates, at a high level, within a University research program. The Associate Manager possesses strong problem-solving, analytical thinking, decision-making, customer service, communication, negotiating, and consulting skills which are utilized to make decisions that solve complex budget and program issues and coordinate solutions and their implementation. The Associate Manager follows up before, during, and after implementation to ensure the continued success of solutions or new processes. This position reports to the department's Manager of contracts and grants.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Mid-career with Masters and 1-2 yrs experience; or Bachelors and 2-4 yrs experience
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Position requires thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and experience interpreting policies, rules and regulations in a research environment. Must have the ability to plan, prioritize and organize multiple duties and work independently to perform the requirements of the position. Must have prior experience managing a multiple sponsored projects from pre- award through post-award closeout. Excellent communication, analytical, and organization skills are required. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel, and Adobe software applications.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Minimum of 5 years of prior research administration experience. Experience working in departmental research administration with pre-award and post-award responsibilities.

Bachelor's degree in a related field such as business administration, finance or accounting.

Prefer a candidate with experience: 1) using University accounting systems, 2) working with Office of Sponsored Research processes, 3) using grants management applications such as Era Commons and Grants.gov, and 4) using University finance applications and research administration management systems (RAMsES, ALICE, OnCore)
