Job Description

The individuals in this position will work in tandem to recruit, hire, and train student employees and contribute to a robust experiential learning program for library student employees. They will also work with library partners to develop and lead workshop sessions that teach students how to utilize research tools and approach storytelling through digital media.

As part of Davidson College's , the Library Studio Fellow program is an opportunity for a recent college graduate to develop a critical understanding of information and technology while gaining valuable work experience through program development and management. Fellow positions are one-year terms that are renewable for a second year.

What You'll Do as a Library Studio Fellow:

Student Experiential Learning

  • Assist in recruiting, hiring, supervising, and training the library's student workforce.
  • Partner with library colleagues to support Library/Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) programming and to develop and improve the library's student employee training program.
  • Incorporate critical engagement with information and technology into student employees' experiences through specialized training and projects.
  • Coordinate and create documentation for student employee training that empowers students to track their growth and learning.

Instruction

  • Lead sessions as part of an ongoing workshop series for students on topics connected to critical engagement with information and technology, such as:
    • Storytelling with media and data
    • Davidson Domains
    • Citation management tools
    • Generative Artificial Intelligence
  • Partner with library colleagues in developing and evaluating the workshop series
  • Engage the Library Consultants in tasks and projects that contribute to the workshop series.

Outreach and Public Services

  • Collaborate with the library staff to develop and execute effective library outreach campaigns, events, and programming.
  • Foster a welcoming presence at various library service points - such as the Information Desk, The Scholars' Studio consultation space, and the Podcast Studio - and model best customer service practices to student employees.
  • Serve as a second-level triage for library questions via phone, email, chat, or at the service point.

Research and Planning

  • Research emerging trends and technologies related to critical engagement with information and technology, pedagogy, student experiential learning, and library outreach and public services
  • Coordinate student involvement with working groups and committees, and advocate for student belonging and engagement.

Qualifications that will help you flourish in this role:

  • Demonstrated ability to engage the student body and successfully develop relationships to support their participation and success.
  • Experience planning events and/or managing social media account(s).
  • Professional oral, presentation, and written communication skills.
  • Highly motivated self-starter, able to work independently with great levels of responsibility and accountability.
  • Familiarity with Davidson College student body and curriculum
  • Past experience working in a library or similar setting.

For this job, we require that:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • You are a member of the Davidson Class 2024 or recent graduate who has been out of school for no more than two years.
  • Able to fulfill some evening and weekend duties as assigned.
