Position Summary
THIS IS A TIME LIMITED POSITION WITH AN ESTIMATED DURATION OF 2 YEARS.

The objective of this position is to serve as a Research Technician under the direction of the SGCF Core Director in the Department of Genetics. This technician will be responsible for breeding and monitoring of Collaborative Cross mice and special crosses, filling orders and arranging shipping of this valuable mouse resource. This is a service-oriented position, so interaction with customers in a polite and efficient manner is essential. Responsibilities include mainly animal breeding and accurate record keeping for this project to assure its integrity. Opportunities for dissections, DNA extraction and quantitation, PCR may be available as needed.

Demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Knowledge of mouse husbandry, mouse anatomy, and genotyping. Ability to use relevant databases and informatics tools to ensure the timely completion of breeding. Ability to work with live animals is essential. Ability to determine and make suggestions for optimal breeding and management of colony space.
Required Licenses/Certifications
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ability to manipulate live mice and cages, which often involves standing for 6-8 hours/day, reaching overhead, and some bending, with or without accommodation.
