Primary Purpose of Department
The Office of Alumni Engagement's primary purpose is to develop, coordinate and promote programs for our alumni to keep them connected and involved with UNC Charlotte and one another. The department serves UNC Charlotte alumni and students in order to strengthen connections and encourage involvement with the institution. The Office of Alumni Engagement is within the division of University Advancement.
Primary Purpose of Position
Reporting to the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming in the Office of Alumni Engagement with a dotted line to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services (CHHS), the CHHS Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement works in collaboration with the alumni engagement team, Deans, academic departments, and alumni volunteers to develop and direct a comprehensive program to engage alumni with the College of Health and Human Services. The position works with the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming to ensure CHHS coordination in the larger university alumni engagement activities and strategy.
Summary of Position Responsibilities
This position includes responsibilities to develop and direct a comprehensive program to engage alumni with the College of Health and Human Services.
  • Work with alumni affinity groups that include program, unit, or major-specific networks to enhance support for student opportunities such as internships, practical and research opportunities.
  • Work closely with College leadership to implement a strategy for alumni engagement.
  • Serve as resource for senior administrators, department/school chairs/directors and student organization advisors on strategies and issues pertaining to alumni engagement and initiatives that increase alumni involvement with current students.
  • Develop and coach academic departments in the use of event planning tools that will help departments/schools maximize their connections with alumni.
  • Develop progress reports and tools to keep accurate records of alumni and volunteers who engage with the College.

Programs and initiatives this position is responsible for include, but are not limited to:
  • Develop strategies for recruitment, cultivation and selection of alumni volunteers.
  • Implement an alumni recognition program including alumni profiles through online and printed materials.
  • Cultivate CHHS students to be lifelong advocates, ambassadors and investors for the college and the university.
  • Facilitate opportunities for alumni to connect with students and share their professional experiences.

Position reports directly to the Director of Alumni Engagement Programming in the Office of Alumni Engagement with a dotted line to the Dean of the College of Health and Human Services to ensure CHHS coordination in the larger university alumni engagement activities and strategy. These activities include but are not limited to Niner Nation Week and Homecoming, Niner Nation Gives and Niner Nation Serves.

Other Job Duties
  • Requires attention to detail and the ability to be strategic and to make decisions in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities for clients with varying needs and areas of emphasis.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean.
Minimum Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree; at least 2 years of experience in program management and event planning or a closely related field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience
  • Work experience in higher education preferred.
  • At least 2 years of experience in alumni engagement and development, or similar field.
  • Proven program management and event planning experience and skills are highly desirable.
  • Volunteer management experience and skills are highly desirable.
  • Strong collaborative leadership skills and ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • A high degree of energy, creativity and initiative.
  • Ability to interact with high level individuals, maintaining a high level of professionalism, judgment, and confidentiality.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Capable of managing competing priorities and multiple deadlines, and seeing projects through from beginning to end.
  • The ability to authentically and enthusiastically represent the mission, vision, and values of UNC Charlotte & CHHS and contribute to its campus culture as a strong and compelling advocate.
  • Strong communications skills including knowledge of social media platforms.
