POSITION: Material Handling Repair Technician

HOURS: 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM Monday-Friday and every other Saturday. Must be willing to work flexible hours including overtime, weekends, and holidays.

COMPENSATION: Wage based on qualifications and skills.
REPORTS TO: Utilities Supervisor

EMPLOYMENT: Full time

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and maintain material handling equipment.

TECHNICIAN DUTIES:

  • Respond to material handling calls and Utilities, and maintenance as need and send necessary personnel to address situation.
  • Monitor radio calls for utilities and get involved as necessary.
  • As required assist maintenance and/or electrical personnel.
  • Ensure all installations and repairs are performed in accordance with HACCP, USDA and Food Safety (SQF) guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work overtime as required or assigned.
  • Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on pallet jacks, forklifts and man lifts.
  • Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
  • Operate and inspect material handling equipment to diagnose defects.
  • Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
  • Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
  • Repair, rewire, and troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Fit bearings to adjust, repair, or overhaul mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment.
  • Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
  • Examine parts for damage or excessive wear, using micrometers and gauges.
  • Clean parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent.
  • Weld or solder broken parts and structural members, using electric or gas welders and soldering tools.
  • Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as hydraulic pumps or AC / DC motors, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
  • Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper safe performance and compliance with manufacturers' specifications.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs, using diagnostic equipment such as meters, computerized test equipment and calibration devices.
  • Research, order, and maintain parts inventory for services and repairs.
  • Adjust and maintain industrial machinery, using control and regulating devices.
  • Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
  • Assist and perform preventative maintenance and repairs on dock plates and dock plate systems.
  • Assist with training / retraining forklift and pallet jack operators.
  • Other duties as assigned.


WORKING CONDITIONS: High noise, dust, varying temperatures from cold to warm, moving equipment, heavy lifting, slippery floors, working at heights, working in awkward positions, potential for slips, trips and falls, are present. Must wear appropriate PPE and other equipment as necessary or required.

QUALIFICATIONS:Knowledge of the operation and adjustment of the equipment within the dept. Work well with people and always be a team builder. Excellent communication skills. Able to handle multiple activities in a stressful situation. Able to handle difficult situations in a professional manner. Able to prioritize problems that arise. Able to work with little or no supervision.Must be able to stand, walk, and climb stairs and ladders, up to 8 hours per day. Must be able to lift heave objects. Must meet Maintenance/Utilities back and task requirements. Must display strong problem solving skills. Must pass Company math test. Must complete power jack/ forklift training course, Lock Out/ Tag Out and Hazard Communication training courses. Must be able to perform all types of welding and produce quality welds that meet requirements and USDA approval. Must meet Journeyman Mechanic, Electrical, Utilities or equivalent in knowledge and experience. Must be able and available to work overtime as required.
