PURPOSE OF THE JOB:

The Console Operator is responsible for safely operating and maintaining the Dyneema fiber production facilities and equipment to produce Dyneema fiber, of the highest possible quality, in the most cost effective manner while maintaining safety.

JOB CONTEXT:

This position requires interaction with technicians and supervision within the fiber production organization as well the plant services' process engineers and maintenance personnel. This position monitors and controls the equipment processes for yarn production via the DCS and other systems.

JOB CONTENT:

Key Areas of Accountability / Responsibility

    1. Ensure all work is conducted in a safe and effective manner and all applicable procedures and policies are followed. Participates in Avient Protective Materials safety efforts. Takes immediate action to correct unsafe acts, systems and procedures. Comply with all job-related safety and other training requirements. Is compliant with relevant laws, regulatory requirements, recipes, SOP's, and other related documentation and activities. Ensures Company guidelines and policies relating to quality, safety, housekeeping and cost effectiveness are met. It is the responsibility of each employee to work in a safe and responsible manner in order to create an injury-free and incident-free workplace. Abides by Avient Protective Materials procedures/policies regarding security, inclusive of: employee security agreements; use of non-disclosure agreements with outside parties; control of Avient Protective Materials intellectual property limited to a "need to know" only basis; no unauthorized use of cell phones, cameras, computers or APM property; reporting security threats and incidents; proper control of APM property and keys.
  1. Monitors and operates 11, or more, fiber production lines, the solvent recovery unit, as well as monitors utilities, security, environmental equipment, safety and other items pertinent to Fiber Production via the Distributive Control System (DCS) and other control room monitoring systems.
  2. Proficient in the start-up/shutdown of all equipment and the automated batch program.
  3. Dispatches production resources when outages occur as well as maintenance when utility and HVAC alarms are present.
  4. Is proficient in both the Sr. Fiber Technician and Fiber Technician positions and is a fill-in and trainer for those jobs as time permits. Helps determine best practices, documents them, and teaches Technicians on shift. (see JD for these two positions)
  5. Leads the Shift when a Shift Coordinator or a Production Operations Supervisor is not available.
  6. Aids in troubleshooting via DCS trending and other PC based programs such as Apentech. Must use the Microsoft Excel program to provide information regarding such. Ability to predict potential problems as a result of using these tools. Participates in RCA as needed.
  7. Handles urgent and emergency situations and make immediate adjustments to minimize DT and prevent incidents. Utilizes good judgment in making critical decisions on product quality, equipment functionality, safety and other related activities.
  8. Provides daily feedback to supervision and staff related to key process parameter performance.
  9. Maintains accurate account and whereabouts of visitors, location(s) of maintenance work, and production/support technicians. Completes required daily documentation including audit forms, regulatory documentation, and other as needed.
  10. Perform routine inspections of hazardous waste storage facilities, logging required data. Safely handle liquid and solid hazardous waste.
  11. Maintain annual training requirements on hazardous waste by reviewing DYNPRO SHE DYN 653 and general awareness presentation. Specific job holders will complete more detailed training as well.
  12. Performs other duties as assigned.

    Authorities

    Authorized to approve work permits per details included in DYNPRO SHE DYN 026. If so authorized, employee must maintain necessary refresher training to participate in these activities.

This position involves work with (supervision of) and/or handling hazardous materials and waste at the Avient Protective Materials (Greenville, NC) work site. Worker has the appropriate qualifications to read, understand, apply and communicate written and verbal information regarding handling and managing hazardous wastes. Training is required within six months of worker assuming duty, and once a year thereafter. Worker is responsible for proper handling, documentation, inspection and transporting around the facility of hazardous wastes. Worker may also be responsible for responding to emergencies involving hazardous waste.

KNOWLEDGE AND EDUCATIONAL LEVEL:

BS/BA in related technical field with 1 year manufacturing experience; OR AA/AS degree in related technical field with 2 years manufacturing experience; OR high school diploma with 3 years manufacturing experience.

Six (6) months Avient Protective Materials fiber production experience.

COMPLEXITY OF THE JOB:

The Console Operator will operate within the Greenville Fiber Production organization. He/she's decisions have substantial impact on the stability and quality of our fiber processes. Ability to make timely judgment calls is critical to sustaining efficient operations. Deliberate communication with technicians is another critical function of position.
