OverviewMicrosoft Silicon Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (SCHIE) is the team behind Microsoft's expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft's "Intelligent Cloud" mission. SCHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. We are looking for a Senior Storage Engineer to join a growing Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) team embedded within Microsoft's Silicon design team. Silicon development at Microsoft scale requires petabytes of storage spread across multiple clusters in multiple environments, both physical and cloud-based, serving a multitude of client types. The Senior Storage Engineer will hold primary responsibility for the data storage systems necessary for the silicon research and design process. ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities:Manage day to day operations of the physical and cloud based storage systems for silicon data serving both Windows and UNIX clients.Drive creation and maintenance of data handling process & policy documentation.Drive automation of storage management and reporting including disaster recovery planning for storage systems in use.Forecast storage requirements, schedules, and resource plans.Manage the scope of work and deliverables provided by external staff.Research and evaluate differing storage solutions and weigh the applicability to engineering need, developing cost/benefit analysis to guide the decision process.Embody our Culture and Values
