Position Summary
The term Graduate Assistant is the umbrella term that encompasses all types of GA appointments. Graduate Assistants are employed by the University to teach, conduct research, or assist with administrative duties in departments and non-academic units. Every attempt is made to assign Graduate Assistants to positions that are directly related to the student's field of study or that provide the opportunity to develop transferable, professional skills. Graduate Assistantships are assigned in the department or unit and confirmed by the Graduate School.

Job Description-Reporting: The CAP Graduate Assistant for Programming reports directly to the Coordinator for Programs. They will also report indirectly to the Associate Director and Director of CAP respectively.

Work Hours, Environment: Office is open 9:00am-5:00pm, GA will serve office hours in addition to evenings and weekends required for programming for a total of 20 hours per week.

Job Description-Job Duties and/or Responsibilities:

(70%) Advise students in an on-campus programming capacity including the following responsibilities:

* Directly advise multiple executive members of ACE, the UNCG programming board
* Manage a portion of the overall programming budget to ensure a diverse, full slate of student programs
* Manage a portion of the room reservations and ensure event logistics are in place
* Serve as the on-site advisor/supervisor for the student programming board (ACE), additional CAP programs, and other major campus events
* Attend CAP meetings, trainings, and conferences

(10%) Assist with planning and implementing department-initiated programming, such as, but not limited to: Rawkin' Welcome Weeks, Fall Kickoff, Homecoming, and the Spartans of Excellence Banquet; as well as marketing these and other department initiatives.

(10%) Serve as a liaison for programming between CAP and other campus entities, both on a one-to-one basis and through service on committees.

(10%) Serve as a member of the Office of Campus Activities and Programs staff and participates in office programs such as Fall Kickoff and Admissions Open Houses; attends CAP and Student Affairs meetings; and other duties as assigned by the Coordinator and/or Director

PLEASE NOTE: The above outlines the opportunities available for the CAP Graduate Assistants for Programming, however, responsibilities may vary between the first and second year depending on individual interests and office needs.

Minimum Qualifications
Academic year, August 1st to end of school (until last GA day outlined on graduate school calendar).
To be eligible for appointments as a graduate assistant, you must:
  • Maintain academic good standing at all times (3.0).
  • Be enrolled full-time, which is generally a minimum of 9 credits.
  • Make satisfactory progress toward your degree as defined by your academic program and the Graduate School.
  • Meet the requirements to be eligible for employment in the U.S.
Additional Minimum Qualifications
Applicants should:

  • Display maturity in work style and communication skills.
  • Have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Google Suite, and basic technology.
  • Have experience and knowledge of programming for college students (preferred).
  • Have some event planning experience (preferred).
  • Be prepared for flexibility in their work schedule for weekend programming and peak event weeks (Homecoming, Rawkin' Welcome Weeks, Winterfest, etc.).
  • Display enthusiasm for working directly with students.
