Science Systems and Applications Inc (SSAI) is seeking a dynamic Communications Intern with an eye for design. As a Communications Intern at SSAI you will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience in the field of science communication while contributing to our mission. You will work closely with our communications team to support various outreach efforts, engage with diverse audiences, and help tell compelling stories about the impact of science in our daily lives. This includes both internal and external company communications.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Content Creation: Assist in creating engaging and informative content for various communication channels, including website articles, social media posts, press releases, and newsletters.
  2. Social Media Coordination: Create, compile and assist with publishing content for the company's social media profiles, including keeping the profiles relevant, monitoring engagement, and analyzing social media performance.
  3. Media Relations: Support the communications team in building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media outlets, including drafting press releases and media pitches.
  4. Graphic Design: Collaborate with our design team to create visually appealing graphics and infographics to accompany written content.
  5. Event Support: Assist in organizing and promoting events, webinars, and conferences related to science, technology, and research.
  6. Audience Engagement: Engage with our online community, responding to comments, messages, and inquiries in a professional and informative manner.
  7. Analytics and Reporting: Monitor and analyze the performance of communication efforts using analytics tools, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
  8. Research: Conduct research on relevant scientific topics and trends to support the development of accurate and compelling content.
  9. Communications Tools Maintenance and Development: Ensure communication tools are up-to-date to provide timely, accessible content.

Required Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a bachelor's or master's program in communications, marketing, journalism, science communication or a related field.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • Passion for science and technology with an ability to translate complex scientific concepts into accessible language for a general audience.
  • Proficiency in social media and website platforms and content management systems.
  • Basic graphic design skills
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
  • Self-motivated, creative and able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • US Citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus.
