Job Description

Science Systems and Applications, Inc. (SSAI) is seeking a full-time Scientific Presentation Curator. This individual will serve in the capacity of a Strategic Visual Content Specialist and would be responsible for directly supporting science communications for a project at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC). They must have a solid grasp of NASA science, excellent communication skills, working knowledge of UNIX/LINUX operating systems, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, and would continuously be up to date on the latest visualizations.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Be present on site at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, MD. This is not a remote or hybrid position.
  • Create and continuously curate content around key GSFC priorities.
  • Curate metadata for the visualizations to enable better search capabilities.
  • Work with presenters to draft content for specific audiences relying on the curated playlists as much as possible.
  • Intake event requests and maintain a calendar of events presentations.
  • Work with GSFC presenters to leverage existing visual content developed by other NASA creative teams to curate and build playlists to support event-specific requests.
  • Serve as the primary operator for GSFC visual content platforms.
  • Interact daily/weekly with various levels of science leadership teams, scientists, strategic communications teams, and scientific visualization teams to build and maintain visual content collections that reflect GSFC science priorities.
  • Evaluate visualizations during development stages to improve effectiveness.
  • Identify areas for new visual content development to ensure clear communication of GSFC science priorities
  • Produce monthly reports to communicate new visualizations, updates/changes to existing visualizations, and track incoming visual content requests.
  • Support the Working Group by sharing monthly updates and by evaluating presentations to identify content that can be added to the database for general use
  • Build and maintain an accessible presentation archive of presentations
  • Create user manuals to operate various GSFC visual content platforms
  • Explore new technology paths and opportunities for displaying visual content at GSFC

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field such as Earth and physical sciences, computer sciences, technology, engineering, math, or related field, and 13 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Computer programming experience (python)
  • Data visualization experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative team environment.
  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Some physical science coursework (e.g., physics, chemistry, geology, astronomy, meteorology)
  • Ability to meet NASA IT security requirements and to obtain a NASA badge to work onsite at GSFC.
  • A positive attitude and the willingness to learn.
  • US Citizenship required.

Desired Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in a STEM-related field
  • Experience with API programming
  • Experience working with scientific datasets and data (for example netCDF, HDF, etc.).
  • Experience designing user interfaces
  • Graphic design experience
  • Experience with 3D modeling and animation software such as Houdini and Maya
