Overview

Excellent opportunity to join a team-oriented group of APPs and Neurosurgeons caring for neurosurgical patients at a Level 1 Trauma Center located in beautiful Peoria, IL. Practice consists of 8 primary neurosurgeons and 5 current inpatient/outpatient APPs with plans to expand to 5 full-time inpatient APP team to support a full neurosurgical inpatient coverage model in conjunction with the Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria). Our neurosurgical program is committed to educating, training, and mentoring APPs. Includes a $10,000 sign on bonus.


Position Details:

  1. 3 - 12-hour daytime shifts alternating 3 -12s and 1 - 8 hour shift; or 2 - 12-hour shifts, 2- 8-hour shifts
  2. Inpatient service management with hospital outpatient coverage as needed.
  3. The APP (Advanced Practice Provider) performs the following tasks:
    • Obtain a patient history
    • Perform a physical examination
    • Conduct a comprehensive assessment
    • Order, conduct and interpret diagnostic tests
    • Formulate a diagnostic impression
    • Develop and implement a treatment plan
    • Monitor the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions
    • Prescribe pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments
    • Facilitate appropriate consultations and referrals
    • Provide counseling and education to meet patient needs
    • Coordinates hospital discharges and follow-up testing/appointments
  4. Participate in research and quality improvement initiatives
  5. Comply with all required hospital compliance policies
  • Quality careand cost savings
  • Timely and up-to-date documentation of medical records

Practice Model:

  1. 8 primary neurosurgeons +5 inpatient/outpatient APPs with plans to expand to 8 inpatient /outpatient APPs, and a 5 inpatient APP team
  2. Effective communication between MD, APP, and Neurosurgery Residency service (University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria)is key to fostering a supportive environment and optimizing patient outcomes.
  3. Day coverage consists of 2 dedicated inpatient APPs per day (12- or 8-hour shifts), Neurosurgery residents, and morning rounding on select patients provided by inpatient/outpatient APPs before returning to outpatient clinic.
  4. Weekend coverage: a rotating coverage model with two weekend shifts every 7 to 8 weeks.
  5. Elective volume; 80:20 spine

Qualifications

Requirements Qualifications:

  1. Master's degree or higher in nursing or physician assistant studies. Current APRN or PA national certification, and Illinois licensure as a Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Specialist, or Physician Assistant
  2. BLS, ACLS, ENLS certification (can help acquire)
  3. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  4. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

  1. At least one year of acute care experience in neurosurgery or related field
