Summary

Weisiger Group is looking for a Vice President of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to plan, implement, manage, and direct EHS strategies, policies, programs, and processes to ensure a positive safety culture that is in compliance with all applicable regulations and requirements. This leadership position demands a strategic approach to drive a positive safety culture, continuous improvement, and professional development across all levels of a high-growth organization.

Essential Functions

Leadership & Collaboration:

  • Create, design, and communicate a clear EHS vision, direction, and strategy throughout the organization, and with customers, that motivates and influences others to commit to and support the strategic direction and vision.
  • Lead the effort to develop and implement safety programs that leverage feedback from the divisions and align with the organizational goals, contributing to the overall success and growth of the organization.
  • Lead EHS program change management and communications to align with senior leadership and functional leaders to ensure efficient and effective program implementation.
  • Identify and prioritize continuous improvement safety projects and collaborate with divisional leaders, front-line employees, and the continuous improvement teams to drive impact across the divisions.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, focus, and clarity of direction to the EHS team.
  • Champion Safetyas a "way of how we work".
  • Inspire or motivate a change in behavior or process.
  • Effectively leverage data to prevent injuries, accidents, and unsafe conditions/behaviors.
  • Assist with environmental remediation, if any, in a cost-effective and timely manner.
  • Act as a creative problem-solver willing to listen, adapt and lead teams through complicated situations.
  • In support of M&A activities, lead EHS due diligence and execution of the integration action plan and generally assist in the integration of acquisition target companies into Weisiger Group.

Training Strategy & Execution:

  • Conduct or coordinate employee training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, active threat, CPR/AED, and the use of safety equipment.
  • Provide or coordinate all OSHA/MSHA required yearly safety training.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret data related to occupational accidents and illnesses. Report figures on a monthly basis to employees and management.

Compliance, Regulatory Oversight & Risk Management:

  • Act as liaison to regulatory agencies and other governmental or public entities.
  • Investigate recordable and near-miss accidents, injuries, or occupational diseases to determine root causes and preventive measures. Report findings to senior leadership team and division management in written format.
  • Research federal, state, and local standards and regulations for compliance. Advise management and employees of non-compliance.
  • Inspect facilities, tooling/machinery, and safety equipment on a routine basis in order to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance.
  • Manage workers compensation claims and return to work programs.
  • Assist Fleet Director with safety issues and inspections related to service vehicles.

Qualifications

  • Executive presence with exceptional interpersonal and communication skills that will exhibit collaborative leadership and the ability to develop partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Highly knowledgeable in technical issues involving EHS program areas and serve as the key EHS expert and leader.
  • A strategist with tactical acumen, knowledge of environmental, health and safety codes and regulations.
  • Proven success in creating and implementing EHS compliance and improvement plans.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills and specialized knowledge of risk management and safety practices.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and negotiation skills.
  • Proficient in use of various computer applications such as Excel, MS word and various other database derived applications.
  • Knowledge of US federal and state regulations pertaining to occupational safety and health and the environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative in all aspects of EHS management.
  • Ability to initiate action with all levels including, without limitation, various divisional leaders, facility managers, continuous improvement team, regulatory agency staff members, and, as necessary, implement emergency response procedures.
  • Strong managerial, communication and interpersonal relationship skills with the ability to work with various functional groups.

Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Science, engineering or related field. Advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) is preferred.
  • Minimum of at least 15 years experience in the field of EHS.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Chemicals Safety Management (CSM), OSHA Certified Instructor, Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHHM), Certified Environmental Manager (CEM), and/or Associate Safety Professionals (ASP) preferred.
  • Requires excellent communications skills, both verbal and written.
  • Minimum 5 years safety management experience in a mechanical service, industrial, or manufacturing type environment.
  • Research and analysis skills of existing and potential safety technologies for continuous improvement.
  • Experience with leading and implementing behavior based safety programs.
  • Proven managerial/leadership skills such as work planning, delegating and evaluating.
  • Proven mentoring and coaching abilities; demonstrated ability to motivate and inspire others.
  • Knowledge of OSHA laws and regulations as related to 29CFR 1910 or 1926. Knowledge of MSHA 30 CFR a plus, but not required.
  • Ability and knowledge to investigate industrial accidents and injuries and to determine the root cause and prevention measures.
  • Ability to exercise mature judgment and suggest the appropriate action when working with employees, management, or customers.
  • Capable of developing a sense of trust among team members at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution, and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to analyze complicated EHS issues and summarize concisely for non-EHS employees.
  • Able to develop action plans and bring to a successful conclusion corrective action.
  • Must act in a way that never compromises ethics, integrity, or safety.
  • Ability to utilize with proficiency - Outlook email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Knowledge of workers compensation laws and regulations and return to duty programs.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
