Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
  • A bachelor's degree in information systems, analytics, or related field and two years of systems support, data governance or related experience OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Demonstrated knowledge of data governance concepts, techniques, processes, and applications
  • Knowledge of and experience with data analytics
  • Knowledge of higher education institutions
  • Experience with enterprise data in a university context
  • Excellent diplomacy, facilitation, and communication skills to work effectively
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate professional and business partnerships
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team, to be flexible and to adapt to different stakeholder needs and organizational cultures

Preferred Qualifications
  • Prior work experience that required strong organizational skills
  • Master's degree in related fields
  • 5+ years' experience in information management developing and implementing modern data governance programs for complex cross-functional organizations, data quality initiatives, training and support for analytics and responsible use, and/or metadata management initiatives
  • Experience in an institutional research or business intelligence setting at a university, including familiarity with the academic enterprise and knowledge of key issues and concepts in higher education
  • Experience in Program or Project Management
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develop a single data request form for internal data requests and triage requests
  • Facilitate the review of data requests with data stewards and data security officers
  • Administer the Data Stewards Council
  • Maintain the data stewardship structure
  • Manage the inventory of data domains and subdomains, data steward assignments, and our Business Data Glossary of key terms
  • Oversee data.appstate.edu website updates
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across campus who own, manage, share, report and otherwise work with data to develop a data literacy program and improve how we leverage data to support the university's mission and strategic plan
  • Support Office of Information Security efforts to develop a data asset inventory and enhance data loss prevention capabilities
