Job Summary

Performs a variety of clinical procedures as defined in the Respiratory Care Scope of Practice

Accountabilities

  • Patient Assessment and Documentation:\u00A0\u00A0\u00A0 Collect and review appropriate information and data by EMR review, physical examination and patient interview. Determine appropriate therapy and goals. Recommend collection of\u00A0 pertinent data and perform diagnostic testing.\u00A0 Monitor and assess patient response to therapies and interventions.\u00A0\u00A0 Explain planned therapy, medications including typical effects, side effects, frequency of use and goals to patient and/or family.\u00A0 Communicate information to health care team verbally and via EMR.\u00A0 20%
  • Airway Care and Suctioning:\u00A0 Care provision according to type. \u00A0Placement, maintenance/cleaning or change tracheal airway devices.\u00A0 Assist with endotracheal intubations, reposition and monitoring of endotracheal tube; extubation by physician order or by protocol.\u00A0 15%
  • Bronchial hygiene: \u00A0Perform all treatment modalities.\u00A0 Provide patient instruction to include the use of teaching aids.\u00A0 Modify technique to meet patient need and comfort while ensuring effective therapy is delivered.15%
  • Deliver oxygen, humidity and alternative gases via all modalities.\u00A0 Perform mechanical ventilation both invasive and non-invasive. Demonstrate detailed knowledge of modes of ventilation; graphics interpretation and application to patient requirements.\u00A0 Monitor to ensure conformance with physician orders.\u00A0 Assess patient response and make recommendations; utilize protocol to secure orders for or make modification to attain patient comfort/synchronicity and ventilation/oxygenation needs.\u00A0 Attend physician rounds, maintain physical presence in assigned unit(s) and notifies nursing personnel of contact information if necessary to leave area unattended.\u00A0 20%
  • Support activities of RCS.\u00A0 Cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment \u00A0to include retention of all reusable items.\u00A0 Remove from service malfunctioning or questionable performance devices and enter maintenance requests.\u00A0 15%
  • Demonstrate professional standards, complete all job responsibilities while maintaining quality, speed and volume.\u00A0 Assist other care team members.\u00A0 Positive role model during orientation of new staff, clinical education and mentoring of students. \u00A0Attend meetings and use resources and communications to maintain up to date knowledge of processes and improvements.\u00A0 15%

Supervisory/Management Responsibilities

This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved Respiratory Care Program

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • SC RCP and NBRC RRT

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Basic ventilator devices

  • Basic RC equipment
