Summary:

Selective's Claims IT Team is seeking a Sr. Software Engineer who is a creative and forward-looking software engineer focused on solution design, development, and implementation. An ideal candidate is proficient in current technologies (.NET 6), design patterns, best practices and has prior experience modernizing applications of medium to large scale.

As a hands-on Sr. Software Engineer you will be both a technical expert and a leader. In addition to producing high quality code and solution design you will also have the opportunity to provide technical guidance to other developers and identifying inefficiencies and process improvements that will boost productivity for the entire team.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate robust technical knowledge, working with architecture, security, and our team to develop and deploy solutions that align with our application development framework & standards.
  • Viewed as a technical expert within the technologies used to support their respective business application(s) being involved from design taking ownership including consulting development staff in all phases of the development and deployment process.
  • Reviews specs, design and code and recommends changes including continuous improvements to development team members to align with approved, application development framework.
  • Maintains a sound understanding of the business processes that those applications support.
  • Performs analysis, systems design, coding and/or integrates purchased solutions. Documents, tests, implements, and provides on-going support for applications.
  • Provides comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staff at the highest technical level on all phases of the project development life cycle. May involve project manager or other leadership role crossing IT systems, applications, and/or infrastructure teams.
  • Communicates effectively to different audiences, including business stakeholders, senior leadership, and developers.
  • Researches and evaluates alternative solutions and recommends the most efficient and cost-effective solutions for the systems design. Participates in setting technical direction in conjunction with the architecture, data base, and infrastructure groups.
  • Provides highly technical consulting and leadership in identifying and implementing new uses of information technologies which assist the functional business units in meeting their strategic objectives.
  • The ability to work with vendor and vendor products.
  • Migrates legacy, dated application technologies to current technologies.
  • Continually looks for opportunities to improve developer productivity and the overall change management process.
  • Recommends, and provides guidance, in the areas of application performance and tuning.
  • Works closely with customers to identify and specify complex requirements and processes for diverse development platforms, software, hardware, technologies, tools, etc.

Qualifications:

  • College degree in Computer Science, Management Information Science, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in software application development and maintenance required with web development experience which includes C#, VB .NET, SQLServer, Azure, Agile methodologies required.
  • Experience with a BPM platform is preferred.
  • Proficient in Json, XML, Restful services as well as Soap services.
  • Experience with Vendor solutions/SaaS solutions/Cloud recommended.
  • Informatica, IIB, Java or Zena Scheduler experience is a plus.
  • Claims competencies is a plus.
  • Requires excellent communication skills, analytic ability, strong judgment, and the ability to work directly with customers and IT management and staff.
  • Project management experience including proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to easily move between multiple projects at any given time.

Salary range: $90,600 - $149,600. The actual base salary is based on geographic location, and the range is representative of salaries for this role throughout Selective's footprint. Additional considerations include the candidate's qualifications and experience.
