The Extension Agent in this position will provide leadership for the 4-H Youth program in Montgomery County, and will plan, implement, and evaluate a wide variety of programs for youth ages 5-19. Duties include developing and maintaining community and school 4-H clubs, special interest youth programs, and in-school enrichment programs, training and management of volunteer staff, and evaluating and reporting impacts of program efforts.

These programs will engage youth in positive, life-skill development activities to address issues of everyday life, enhance the community and environment where they live and give them access to high quality, experiential programming related to careers in the areas of Agriculture, Leadership, Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, etc.

The agent will use a variety of educational methods such as organized 4-H clubs, school enrichment, 4-H summer programs, special interest and after-school programs.

Volunteer development and utilization of an advisory system are essential to success. This position will recruit, train and coordinate adult and teen volunteers.

Responsibilities will include coordinating program staff and management of programs funded through grants and fees. Agent will provide training and educational information for limited and non-limited resource audiences to acquire and gain skills to learn about community service and volunteerism, to participate in the community development process, and to provide an opportunity for youth to be trained in life skills to enhance the community and environment where they live and make smart choices related to healthy lifestyles.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit
North Carolina Cooperative Extension gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, Cooperative Extension agents deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina citizens.

Montgomery County is located in the middle of the state. With a population around 28,000, it is considered a rural county but is a short drive to Greensboro, Pinehurst, and Charlotte. In addition to all the amazing outdoor opportunities in the Uwharrie National Forest, Lake Tillery, and Badin Lake, there are 5 great towns that provide the community support and small town living many are seeking.

Other Work/Responsibilities
The applicant must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic with skills in leadership, communication, public relations, planning, implementation, and evaluation, and will need a strong sense of fun and ability to engage and work with youth. As a member of the Montgomery County Extension staff, the individual in this position will need to work with a range of county partners, and to recognize the importance of teamwork and fully support the total Extension program.

Minimum Experience/Education
One of the following educational requirements: - A Bachelor's degree with a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 overall or a 3.0 (based on a 4.0 scale) in child or youth development or related field. The minimum GPA requirement will be waived for NCCE Program Associates with a Bachelor's degree. - A Bachelor's degree and the completion of at least one-half of coursework in a Master's degree curriculum with a cumulative grade point average 3.0 or higher with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field, or - Completion of a Master's degree with at least one of the degrees in child or youth development or related field. Also required: a personal automobile; computer literacy; strong oral and written communication skills; the ability to plan, implement, market, and evaluate educational programs; willingness to work as a team member and support a total Extension program; and the ability to handle multiple demands and set priorities. Personal Attributes: Successful performance of the duties encompassed in the County Extension Agent's job requires that the individual possess habits of industry, a sense of responsibility, and a genuine appreciation for the worth of the individual. The employee must be adept in both oral and written communication. The County Extension Agent is eligible to become a member of the non-tenure track/special faculty at North Carolina State University. The County Extension Agent has primary responsibility for planning, executing, and evaluating that phase of county Extension programs within assigned areas of program responsibility. The County Extension Agent cooperates with colleagues in the North Carolina Cooperative Extension and county leaders in performing assigned responsibilities. The performance of assigned responsibilities is governed by the philosophy, objectives, policies, and procedures of the North Carolina Cooperative Extension.

The successful candidate must have experience in working with both adult and youth diverse audiences.

Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends and be able to handle multiple tasks and establish priorities.

The applicant must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic with skills in leadership, communications, grantsmanship, networking, budgeting and public relations.
Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Although not required, we prefer that the applicant's Bachelor's degree be in education, child or youth development, family and consumer sciences, natural resources, agriculture education, extension; a related Master's degree is preferred.
Required License or Certification
Valid Driver's License and reliable, personal transportation required. Valid North Carolina driver's license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
