Summary:
The Director of Nursing for the Women's Center is responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, directing and evaluating nursing care for multiple clinical operational areas to include Mother/Baby, Special Care Nursing, and Labor & Delivery. The Director of Nursing facilitates and assists in the development and implementation of organizational goals, departmental objectives, standards and policies/procedures within the framework of standards established by professional and regulatory agencies, and within the boundaries of allocated resources. The person in this role has the responsibility to cultivate a collaborative and efficient workplace with attention to quality standards, patient experience, and employee engagement. The Director of Nursing for Women's Center reports to the Vice President of Nursing.
Responsibilities:
- Effectively and appropriately applies the nursing care process, and the provision of nursing care.
- Ensures qualified staff is hired and receive appropriate orientation. Oversees competency assessment program for assigned areas. Ensures compliance with legal, regulatory and policy requirements.
- Demonstrates leadership in a professional manner by assisting with management of the unit in an administrative role by supporting the philosophy and policies of UNC Health Nash.
- Actively assists in meeting unit specific financial/operational goals for assigned areas. Takes appropriate actions to ensure staffing adequacy for the unit, in accordance with staffing guidelines.
- Demonstrates awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strives to manage situations in a reduced manner.
- Assists in ensuring compliance with standards of Performance Improvement, Quality Control and Regulatory Agencies.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Other information:
- Bachelor in Nursing. Graduate of an approved nursing program.
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN), or a related Master's degree is strongly preferred.
- RN License. Current License to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina
- BCLS Certification. Recertification required every 2 years.
- ACLS Certification. Obtain within first year of hire; Recertification required every 2 years.
- NRP Certification. Obtain within first year of hire; Recertification required every 2 years.
- National Certification Corporation (NCC) certification is preferred.
- 3 years of Healthcare/Medical - Manager Level experience required.
- Substantial clinical nursing experience in the area's specialty and/or sub-specialty preferred.
- Supervisors (Clinical Nurse IV), Registered Nurses, Nursing Assistants, Referral Specialists and any other personnel assigned to the department.
