Day & Zimmermann is looking for a Lead Estimator to support our PMO. This person can be based remotely with site travel required.

A lead estimator at D&Z is capable of preparing detailed cost estimates through deliverables established by operations /construction or a client's "Request for Quote", including craft/staff labor, materials, equipment/rentals, indirect costs and cash flow. Maintain selective estimating input to projects (change control) and interface with certain clients on estimating needs

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Ability to work independently, use problem solving judgment and organize and prioritize work assignments.
  • Ability to conduct oneself professionally and with diplomacy and maintain confidentiality where necessary.
  • Ability to do bottoms-up unit rate estimating and applying area-based productivity factors
  • Ability to do material takeoffs from sets of engineering drawings
  • Ability to read technical documents and drawings
  • Ability to generate detailed estimates from conceptual design by making and documenting assumptions
  • Thorough understanding of Microsoft Excel
  • Basic knowledge of estimating resources (e.g. reference material).

What You Need To Bring To The Table:

  • Experience with large (over $20M) fixed price project estimating for Power and/or Industrial markets
  • Knowledge of standard unit rate databases
  • Some college or post secondary education preferred or minimum of five plus years related experience in a construction environment.
  • Ten plus years experience in related estimating assignments.
  • Experience with estimating software (WinEst is preferred)
  • Field estimating experience a plus

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide support and guidance for estimating personnel.
  • Perform detailed quantity take off's from drawings.
  • Develop craft hour productivity rates with minimal information about specific work tasks, through a "crew up process" or by researching past project cost history; to enhance the validity of the estimate.
  • Produces total project (EPC) cost estimates for client to support their allocation of budgets for expenses and capital projects. Determines labor hours and dollars for engineering, procurement, maintenance, modifications, and construction activities.
  • Work with supply chain to develop material & subcontractor pricing.
  • Interface with all disciplines supporting proposals and EPC estimates.
  • Occasional travel to other offices is required

In compliance with this state's pay transparency laws, the salary range for this role is $91,000 - $206,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location. (The specific programs and options available to an employee may vary depending on date of hire, schedule type, and the applicability of union fringes).
