Position Overview: Provide CNC programming and technical support to machine shop manufacturing operation. Recommends and implements processes, fixtures, tooling, machines, routings and methods to meet the needs of manufacturing and to support continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Creates, revises, and improves CNC programs and associated tooling for milling and turning machine tools with Fanuc, Fadal, Haas and Mazatrol controllers, to eliminate errors, improve performance, and reduce cost for new and existing parts.
  • Analyzes job orders, drawings, blueprints, specifications, and design data in order to calculate/determine; dimensions, geometries, reference points, machine cutting paths, and appropriate machine speeds and feeds.
  • Develops programs primarily utilizing Mastercam but also has the ability to generate, edit, and troubleshoot code directly without CAM software.
  • Oversees and operates machines on trial runs and during program or process validation to ensure programs and machinery function properly and produce parts that meet specifications.
  • Ensure tooling and fixturing capability, assists in product startups, tooling standardization, work cell integration, and resolution of manufacturing issues.
  • Assist in the specification, selection, and procurement of machinery and equipment necessary for manufacturing processes; from specialized tooling to full CNC work centers, and support bringing the new equipment to full production.
  • Design and develop manufacturing processes and equipment, related fixtures, and tooling to reduce cost, lead time, change over, processing time, capacity constraints, and defects.
  • Supports engineered orders, routing changes, new products, and process changes.
  • Recommends inventory for MRO/tool crib supplies and assesses state of consumable tooling for efficiency, effectiveness, availability, upgrade, sharpening, and obsolescence.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies, and Abilities:
  • Must be able to setup, program, and operate various types of CNC lathes and mills, including 4 and 5 axis machining.
  • Advanced knowledge of metal cutting machine shop manufacturing operations and techniques, including CNC machining, programming, GD&T, CAM systems, tooling, and fixture design.
  • Ability to interpret complex mechanical, electrical or technical drawings including part prints, BOMs, routings, and work orders.
  • Understanding and utilization of metrology and geometric tolerances, with ability to measure complex machined parts using dial calipers, micrometers, gages, and other measuring instruments to determine if meeting specification.
  • Must have sufficient mathematical skills as required to effectively calculate and examine 3D models, dimensional prints, CAM software, CNC programs, and part measurements; includes ability to work with fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Required Qualifications:
  • High School Graduate, GED is required, Associates degree or programming certification preferred.
  • Qualified candidate will be required to have verifiable machining experience and 3 yrs. in G-code, Conversational and CAM software use on lathes and mills.
  • Must be able to edit and write programs along with performing offsets and tool changes.
  • Must be willing and able to travel domestically 25-50%.
