Overview

This role will function as the senior technical leader for all managed VPC (virtual private cloud) workloads under the Cloud Native Engineering organization.

To provide technical leadership and direction for a team of highly skilled professionals responsible for cloud-native product engineering across all areas of Cloud Native Engineering: security, software defined networking, Infrastructure as Code & data automation, containerized platforms, site reliability engineering and performance, and delivery. To partner with product owners, executive leaders, and all Cloud Engineering teams to deliver and enhance secure, high performing, highly available products leveraging Infrastructure as Code technologies. The team will research, evaluate, design, implement, and maintain system and product solutions.

The role requires both broad and deep architecture, engineering and strategic experience with Microsoft Azure or comparable cloud technologies; specifically, deep technical expertise in cloud-native software defined networking, cloud security, cloud platforms, SRE practices, and Azure Infrastructure as Code modules; Azure Data services, Azure DevOps Repos and Pipelines; Azure Platform as a Service (PaaS); Azure Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and supporting technologies. The candidate should have a history of technical leadership for product engineering deliveries and support of such in very technically complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • In partnership with executive leadership, set high-level technical direction for team
  • Collaborate and build relationships with executive leadership, product owners, organizational partners and the team for both team and overall business success.
  • Develop roadmaps for cloud native product enhancements
  • Proactively identify opportunities for evolving cloud services across the Azure tenant.
  • Influence, advocate for and champion leadership's collective vision

Specific Qualifications

  • Strong technical leadership skills with successful track record of cloud delivery; partnership with, and influence of executive leadership
  • Advanced expertise in Infrastructure as Code principles (IaC), and engineering IaC deployments via Azure DevOps including modules, Pipelines, and Repos
  • Advanced experience in scripting with Windows PowerShell
  • Advanced expertise in engineering Azure security platforms including Azure Policy, Azure Security Center, and optionally Sentinel and M365 Defender
  • Advanced expertise in engineering Azure Platform as a Service (Azure PaaS) including but not limited to:
    • Storage Accounts, Azure Recovery Services Vaults, Functions, Logic Apps, Web Apps, Azure SQL, Azure Active Directory, Application Insights, Virtual Networks, Application Gateway, Load Balancers
  • Advanced expertise in engineering Azure Infrastructure as a Service (Azure IaaS) including but not limited to:
    • Subscriptions, Resource Groups, Virtual Machines, Disks, Managed Disks, Availability Zones, Availability Sets, Azure Monitor, etc.
  • Intermediate Expertise in engineering Azure Automation
    • OMS, State Configuration (Azure DSC), Update Management, Runbooks, Inventory Management, Change Tracking
  • Working knowledge of Active Directory, Group Policy, LDAP, Kerberos, DNS, TCP/IP, WMI, SNMP
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL Server usage and administration
  • Minimum of 15-20 year experience in IT with an emphasis on Cloud native solutions
  • Minimum of 7-10 years in all or most of the following or comparable technologies:
    • Azure Software Defined Networking
      • Express Route, vNets, Subnets, UDRs, Routing, Private Endpoints, Application Gateways, Load Balancers
    • Azure Data & Storage
      • Azure Blob, Files, and Data Lake Storage
      • Azure Data Bricks

      • Reservations, Cost Analysis, Tagging, Advisor

      • Functions, Logic Apps, App Services Environments, Virtual Machines, VM Scale Sets
    • Azure containerized platforms
      • Azure Kubernetes Services, Azure Container Apps, Azure Container Instances,
    • SRE
      • Azure Dashboards, Monitoring and alerting automation (Alerting as Code), Logging, Application Insights, OMS
    • Azure Automation Runbooks, PowerShell, and Azure CLI
    • Azure Security
      • Microsoft Entra (formerly Azure Active Directory)
      • Azure Defender for Cloud, Microsoft Defender for Endpoint
      • Azure Key Vaults
      • Azure Policy
    • Power BI dashboards
    • Azure DevOps including Repos, Pipelines, and Boards
      • Infrastructure as Code templates (ARM, Bicep, or alternatively Terraform)
    • Event Hubs, Event Grid, Redis Cache

Desired Qualifications

  • Expertise in general networking including firewalls, routers, proxies, DNS, DHCP, etc.
  • Strong familiarity with Azure AI services
  • Intermediate experience with Azure Software as a Service solutions integrations (Azure SaaS)
  • Strong familiarity with Azure Dev Centers (Azure Deployment Environments), Azure DevTest Labs
  • Working knowledge of ServiceNow
