Job Description
 
Statement of Primary Purpose
Under the supervision of the Assistant Controller, the Payroll Manager is responsible for processing and reconciling all items related to compensation for Bernhardt Furniture Company while maintaining the utmost confidentiality. This person is also responsible for keeping Bernhardt compliant in an ever-changing payroll environment.
 

Responsibilities & Duties

  1. Assist Bernhardt employees, administrators, and managers with the Kronos system for payroll.
  2. Review and prepare garnishments, levies, child support, and other manual payroll adjustment items.
  3. Process and Transmit 401K file to TPA and review weekly exceptions report for errors.
  4. Set up new salary job numbers in JD Edwards and link all new jobs numbers to correct GL codes.
  5. Work with JD Edwards contractor to resolve Payroll issues.
  6. Update Permanent File records for Executive payroll with increases/new hires/terms.
  7. Review direct deposit changes and additions during the period.
  8. Process payroll and send direct deposit files to bank two days prior to deposit date.
  9. Post all Journal Entries associated with Payroll processing.
  10. Reconcile month end accruals and employee withholding balances.
  11. Process Federal and State withholding balances with required reporting on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  12. Process world writer reports for HR staff (managers and administrators), upon request – open enrollment, wellness, etc.
  13. Complete/Distribute Executive Salary performance reviews and update increases in system, also send copy of new field Employee Professional Objectives to William Howard for his and ABJ’s review.
  14. Assist Auditor with documentation for the annual Financial Statement audit.
  15. Process and send out all year end reports for employees (W-2’s).
  16. Process all year end reports for Federal and State agencies.
  17. Work with Special Projects accountant and managers on yearend budget projections.
  18. Provide annual reports for government agencies to HR for AFA, EEO, ACA, and Vets. 
  19. Provide other reports for Bernhardt management as requested.
 

Qualifications

  1. A thorough understanding of accounting principles including payroll, taxes, accruals, and the preparation of financial statements.
  2. Knowledge of computer operation – computer literate.
  3. Ability to work closely with others in accounting and payroll matters.  Maintaining the utmost confidentiality, no exceptions.
  4. Ability to communicate well with co-workers, executive management, and the public.
  5. High School Diploma required, associate degree in Business Administration/Accounting or related areas preferred.
  6. Two years’ experience in related field.
  7. J.D. Edwards/Oracle software a plus.
