Description of primary duties and responsibilities:

Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit:

The College of Business and Economics at Fayetteville State University is seeking applicants for a Business Counselor in the Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC). The VBOC provides assistance, counseling, training, mentoring, and referral services to veterans, service-disabled veterans, and reservists and military spouses who desire to start or expand a business.

The College of Business and Economics at Fayetteville State University is seeking applicants for a Business Counselor in the Veteran's Business Outreach Center (VBOC). The VBOC provides assistance, counseling, training, mentoring, and referral services to veterans, service-disabled veterans, and reservists and military spouses who desire to start or expand a business.

The Business Counselor will report to the VBOC Project Director.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

A Bachelor's degree in business or other relevant field with three years of work experience as a business owner, officer, manager, or program administrator. Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal skills, a working knowledge of database software, and effective research skills are required. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Military Experience

Some travel is required for this position. Personal transportation and a valid driver's licenses is required.

Knowledge skills and abilities:

Business Counselor will:
Document counseling sessions and related data.
Promote a positive image of the VBOC
Provide assistance in a timely manner
Participate in technical training as required
Work effectively within business communities
Ability to effectively communicate with a wide variety of individuals in person and by phone pertaining to small business questions, concerns and issues
Ability to prepare and make public presentations

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous business ownership and/or management experience
