Position Summary Information

Minimum Qualifications
PhD or EdD with specific expertise related to media studies, educational technology, instructional design, media production, new media literacies, or closely related areas.

Candidates who are ABD will be considered, but the position requires completion of all doctoral requirements by July 31, 2024.

Description of the Department or Unit
The Department of Media, Career Studies and Leadership Development is one of five departments in the Reich College of Education, offering programs that prepare students for employment in a wide variety of teaching, administrative and service roles, as well as employment or career advancement in business and industry. The department includes programs in Career and Technical Education; Media, Technology and Learning Design, Library Science, and School Administration.

The Media, Technology and Learning Design (MTL) program provides students with a deep foundation in the practice and theory of learning design, technology innovation, learning analytics, and critical studies in higher education. MTL offers a Doctor of Education (EdD) in Educational Leadership, specializing in Instructional Technology Leadership, and a Master's degree (MA) in Media, Technology, and Learning Design with concentrations in Instructional Specialist K-12 Facilitation and Online Design, Communication, and Engagement. Additionally, the program offers a variety of graduate certificates in areas such as Digital Media Literacy; Online Design, Communication and Engagement; and Instructional Technology Facilitation and Leadership. An undergraduate minor in Media Studies is also available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Teaching and Curriculum Development
  • Develop and deliver undergraduate and graduate courses related to media, technology, and learning design.
  • Create and update curriculum materials to reflect advancements in the field.
  • Foster an inclusive and engaging learning environment that encourages critical thinking and creativity.

Research and Scholarship
  • Engage in high-impact research in areas such as digital media, educational technology, instructional design, or related fields.
  • Disseminate research findings through academic journals, conference presentations, public scholarship, and/or creative products.
  • Pursue external funding opportunities to support research and creative projects.

Student Advising and Mentorship
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, guiding them in their academic and career pursuits.
  • Supervise student research projects, theses, and dissertations (including serving on and chairing doctoral committees).

Service, Leadership, and Engagement
  • Participate in departmental and institutional committees and contribute to academic program development.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on innovative projects and initiatives.
  • Engage with the broader academic and professional communities through outreach and service.

ABD Consideration: ABD with reduction in rank and salary (see desc. below)
ABD Description
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.

No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered.
