Description of the Department or Unit | The Studio Art area of the Department of Art offers a BFA in Studio Art with concentrations in printmaking, drawing and painting, fibers, metals, ceramics and sculpture. There are more than 110 Studio Art majors and more than 110 Studio Art minors. Studio Art faculty also play a central role in providing coursework for Art Department majors in Art Education, Graphic Design, and Art and Visual Culture, and participate in offering general education courses for non-majors across campus. The Department of Art is accredited by NASAD and has 47 full-time faculty members, over 20 part-time faculty members, over 800 undergraduate majors and offers the following degrees: BFAs in Art Education, Graphic Design, Photography with concentrations in Commercial and Fine Art, and Studio Art; a BA in Art & Visual Culture with concentrations in Art History, Art Management and Studio Art; and a BS in Graphic Communications Management with concentrations in Cross Media Production and Print/ Packaging Production. The Department of Art offers a range of travel opportunities including trips to the university's New York Loft and has offered study abroad trips to China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Germany, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, Scotland, Spain, and Taiwan. ABD Description |
ABD with reduction in rank and salary: ABD will be considered for this position. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year. No ABD consideration: Only candidates with an earned doctorate or terminal degree from an accredited institution will be considered for the position. Since ABD will not meet the minimum requirements, ABD will not be considered. |
