Job Description
GENERAL SUMMARY
The role of the Product Engineer II is to identify and coordinate product changes, manage support requests based on the needs of the business, ensure product compliance to industry standards, maintain product line viability, define and lead lab testing, and assist manufacturing engineering, operations and quality control.

This position is a 100% on-site position and is not eligible for a hybrid work schedule.  This position also operates on the plant's four 10-hour Monday through Thursday schedule.


PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)
Perform Engineering tasks in the maintenance of product lines and cost reduction
 
  • Identify and coordinate product changes for safety, performance, production improvements, and cost reductions (including offshore sourcing)
  • Manage requests to prioritize tasks based on the needs of the business
  • Maintain and certify product lines to industry standards
  • Generate and maintain 2D/3D CAD drawings and database, BOMs in the ERP system, and technical documents by product line
  • Provide technical assistance to all internal customers. Primary engineering support of Quality Control
  • Participation in development of product specifications, and compliance to customer specifications
  • Produce conceptual designs and procure hardware for testing
  • Support development process with New Product Design to produce new designs
  • Analyze designs with guidance from subject matter experts, using engineering analysis tools and techniques such as 3D Modeling, FEA, and CFD
  • Maintain instruction manuals and product literature
  • Define and lead lab tests to certify proof of design and establish baselines
  • Assist manufacturing with implementation of product and process changes
  • Conduct design reviews alongside SME, for manufacturability, performance, and product family accuracy
  • Perform tolerance analyses
  • Provide support to team members
  • Interface with the Pittsburgh engineering team on a regular basis.
Project Management and Leadership
  • Provide input on project feasibility
  • Provide input on estimated resources needed to achieve project goals
  • Direct and manage small projects from concept to release for production
  • Project guidance may be needed
  • Create and maintain 6-month project schedules
  • Manage projects to meet schedules including:
    • Working with team members to ensure completion of project objectives on-time
    • Manage changes to project and product scope
    • Identify and communicate potential threats of schedule to management
  • Participate in product release for production and related sale activities
  • Provide periodic oral and written reports of project status
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing or mechanical engineering. Related experience a plus
  • 5+ years of experience
  • Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) Green Belt preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Ability to effectively manages projects
  • Understanding of valve and actuator design
  • Understanding of metal castings and precision machining
  • Ability to use all aspects of 3D modeling software (SolidWorks experience preferred) to create and manipulate models, assemblies, drawings, animations
  • Familiar with 2D AutoCAD and 3D modeling software (Inventory or SolidWorks preferred) to create, and manipulate models, assemblies, drawings and animations
  • Familiar with setup and review of finite element analysis
  • Able to identify and eliminate safety hazards
  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, demands, and timelines
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and strong interpersonal skills
  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and professionally with recipient understanding
  • Aware of emerging trends and developments in technical fields
  • Presents engineering details effectively to high-level/cross functional teams with the audience understanding the message
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Physical demands are typical of an office position including extended periods of sitting, extensive use of a personal computer and telephone
  • Factory floor support is imperative
  • The physical requirements of the job are related to testing in the engineering lab, field service activities that can be part of the job assignments or handling component parts in the plant during a quality inspection
WORKING CONDITIONS
Normal manufacturing and office environment.  When working occasionally in some shop areas, personal protection equipment (PPE) will be recommended and/or required (safety shoes, safety glasses w/side shields, hearing protection, face shield, gloves, apron and boots).  Stress may result from workload and meeting schedules.  Must have the ability to support extended business hours to meet customer business needs.
