ECU Department of Transit is currently seeking Vehicle Operators to perform the following duties:
- Complete a training course involving, but not limited to, online training, classroom training, written work, quizzes/tests, and behind-the-wheel training.
- Familiarize self with system and safety features; geography and roadways of assigned routes and service areas; traffic rules, regulations, and laws.
- Operate a transit vehicle to pick up, transport, and discharge passengers while adhering to the route schedule and maintaining a pleasant and courteous manner.
- Provide information on bus services to customers, including bus schedules, routes, and local information.
- Receive and transmit two-way radio communications regarding accidents, incidents, emergencies, criminal activities, or any other authorized ECU Transit business while utilizing judgment and discretion to ensure customer and individual safety.
- Perform vehicle operations at variable times of day and night. May work outside regular business hours ars required by service demands.
- Operate a wheelchair lift, secure passengers' mobility devices, and assist passengers with disabilities with boarding, riding, and alighting in a safe manner including pushing a manual wheelchair up a steep ramp if necessary.
- Write reports and complete forms as required. May prepare detailed written reports concerning accidents/incidents, breakdowns, and mechanical defects as required at the end of a shift.
- Complete ongoing training courses for professional development provided by ECU Transit during the duration of employment.
- Work at least 18-20 hours per week, depending on service demands.
- Work is primarily between 06:00 am to 01:00 am for both bus and On-Demand operators including some nights, weekends, holidays, and special events.
