Job Details:

Provide evidence based physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide evidence based physical therapy services under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist
  • Implement treatments, obtain objective data related to interventions, and modify treatments as directed by the physical therapist
  • Perform job as described by the Physical Therapy Assistant Competencies
  • Supervise and mentor PTA students
  • Demonstrate and carry out plan for professional development
  • Perform patient and family education
  • Work with administrative personnel
  • Educate colleagues and hospital employees regarding the role of a PTA
  • Communicate with referring providers for continuity of care
  • Present a minimum of one department wide in service per year, preferably continuing education material
  • Practice following all legal and ethical requirements as outlined by the Massachusetts state law and APTAs Code of Ethics
  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
  • Performs other similar and related duties as required or directed.
Job Qualifications:

AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:
    • Knowledge of growth and development
    • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
    • Provide age specific communication)

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Practice following all legal and ethical requirements as outlined by the Massachusetts state law and APTAs Code of Ethics

EDUCATION:

  • Graduate of a CAPTE-accredited PTA program
  • Licensed to practice in the state of Massachusetts
  • One or more year(s) of experience preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • One or more year(s) of experience preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Licensed to practice in the state of Massachusetts

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

To describe the physical work environment: One, or a combination of the following will fit most situations:

  • Normal office work environment. Inpatient (or outpatient clinic) patient care area. Typical clinical Therapy setting
  • Continuous/frequent/occasional exposure to sick patients/bodily substances..
  • Work requires occasional typing/computer keying, lifting/assisting/ positioning patients, lifting/positioning materials /patient treatment instruments/equipment/, etc.)
