About Trimble's Internship Program
Trimble's Internship is a full-time, summer internship lasting approximately 12 weeks. The Technical Writer Intern will be based in Portland, Oregon or Remote. You will be working alongside our Trimble Viewpoint teams which provides innovative, construction-specific software solutions to the global construction and capital project industries. Trimble and Viewpoint are committed to bringing information technology-based efficiencies to construction projects and their stakeholders, engaging in a highly collaborative process with customers to ensure every product and service addresses key industry issues.
The internship program provides college students the opportunity to learn and practice both job-specific skills, as well as communication and teamwork skills in an innovative work environment. Interns will gain first-hand experience in creating, writing and editing content for the business alongside a skilled team of mentors and writers.
About the Technical Writer Internship:
As a Technical Writer, you will be a creative contributor for our Information Experience team to help design and develop the next generation of our integrated product learning solutions and Help. You will create user-centered content that meets user goals with Trimble's products in mind by creating and editing informational content that adheres to the company guidelines. You will have the opportunity to assist in the migration of content to our next generation structure DITA/AML/XML single-sourcing format and content management system, providing consistent, unified Help experience. Collaboration is key to working cross-functionally with team members in engineering, product management, support, training, professional services and marketing to design ideal customer learning experiences.
Required:
- Must be a current student grading no earlier than December 2023 and be actively continuing to pursue a degree at the completion of the internship in English, Communications, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Journalism, Education or related field
- Experience developing successful user-centered learning solutions and curriculum through multi-meda, particularly video tutorials
- Must be able to write high-quality, personable and creative content with strong attention to detail
- Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills
- Familiarity with Help authoring tools such as MadCap, Flare, easyDITA or Oxygen
- Ability to interpret and present technical information effectively to a variety of audiences
- Excellent collaboration and problem solving skills working cross-functionally with other teams
- Working knowledge of Google Suite Workspace and Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Previous technical writing experience a plus, but not required
- Experience with DITA/XML content authoring and usage of content management systems
- Familiarity with developing video content
- Project management, accounting software or construction familiarity a plus
- Understanding of Agile software development and lean design principles
