General Summary

A postdoctoral position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Pedram Hamrah, in the Department of Ophthalmology of Tufts Medical Center. Work in Dr. Hamrahs laboratory for this position is focused on mechanism and therapeutic interventions for neuropathic corneal pain. Dr. Hamrahs laboratory is also focused on corneal immunology and intravital imaging, with special emphasis of neuroimmune crosstalk in the cornea.

Principal Duties & Essential Functions/Skills

Research

  • Work closely with the Principal Investigator (PI) on research projects studying: The efficacy of topical compounds in ameliorating neuropathic corneal pain using our newly created in vivo model adnd to elucidate mechanisms involved in the development of neuropathic corneal pain.
  • Independently develop protocols and establish new methodologies in the laboratory
  • Microsurgical experience with rodents
  • High Level of motivation
  • Quantifying corneal pain using behavioral responses and standard clinical measurements of corneal health
  • Standard molecular genetic and nucleic acid handling techniques, including PCR.
  • Standard protein techniques, including immunohistochemistry and confocal microscopy, ELISA, flow cytometry and electrophoresis/ immunoblotting
  • Experience handling fresh tissues and cell cultures for genetic and molecular biologic analysis
  • Familiarity with high-throughput genetic techniques, including expression profiling and tissue micro-array analysis
  • Excellent and meticulous organizational and technical skills are of the utmost importance as are documentation skills, and interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be able to attend trainings in Biosafety and to rigorously adhere to biosafety standards and sterile techniques at all times.
  • Maintains excellent collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the working groups achievement of goals, and to help foster a positive work environment
  • Ability to work independently, under supervision and as a part of a team is required
  • Strong interpersonal relationships with laboratory co-workers and co-investigators at other institutions or in other labs

Writing

  • Strong documentation, presentation and writing skills, and will be expected to prepare work for scientific presentation, incorporation into grant applications, and publication.

    • per the lab hierarchy, Dr. Hamrah is the PI. The Post-doctoral fellows including this position report to the PI.

Job Qualifications:

Educational / Experience Requirements

  • Ph.D. or M.D. is required.
  • PGY1 or higher level
