Job Description

The North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Senior Early Childhood Specialist to join the Workforce Development department. The purpose of the Senior Early Childhood Specialist is to provide on-site mentoring, coaching, and technical support to contracted Early Learning Programs in their pursuit of obtaining Texas Rising Star (TRS) status. The Senior Early Childhood Specialist will work in partnership with regulated Early Learning Programs, that are either center or home based, ensuring, and supporting quality programs within the Workforce Solutions for North Central Texas 14 county region. The Senior Early Childhood Specialist will facilitate adult education and support activities on various topics to early care and education professionals from diverse backgrounds. The Senior Early Childhood Specialist will act as a liaison with external agencies.

Some responsibilities include:

  • Review new Texas Rising Star (TRS) applications for completion and assurances. Assist Early Learning Programs in achieving initial TRS certification through ongoing mentoring, coaching, observing, goal setting, and providing feedback. Providing guidance for current or pending legislation and regulations that affect operations. Assists in maintaining and updating compliance policies, procedures, and manuals by researching, evaluating, and monitoring governing laws and regulations for policy development, regulatory compliance, and compliance projects.
  • Conduct mentoring and technical assistance to Early Learning Programs in the TRS program to assist with improving the quality of care provided. Model developmentally appropriate practices to directors and staff.
  • Develop Continuous Quality Improvement Plans (CQIP) to assist Early Learning Programs in setting goals to meet TRS quality standards, including but not limited to, understanding the TRS tool, understanding the value of teacher-child interactions, and providing resources and/or referrals for training, business support, and technical assistance where needed.
  • Assist in the selection, preparation, and distribution of materials on child development, parenting, challenging behaviors, and developmental milestones to promote high quality childcare.

Required Skills:

  • Collects, organizes, analyzes, and prepares materials in response to requests for program information and reports.
  • Researches and recommends additional program activities to promote high quality learning environments through coordination with community partners and other organizations.
  • Works independently with limited supervision, makes valuable contributions to a team, possesses excellent organization skills, and can anticipate and be responsive to organizational needs.
  • Demonstrates leadership and team collaboration skills; performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited 4-year college or university - in early childhood education, child development, special education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science ora Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with at least 18 credit hours in early childhood education, child psychology, educational psychology, elementary education, or family consumer science with at least 12 credit hours in child development.
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience in a full-time early childhood classroom experience in a childcare setting.
  • Required knowledge of the Texas Rising Star Certification Guidelines and experience in mentoring and/or assessing for the TRS program.

FLSA: Exempt

Minimum Salary: $52,500/yr.

Maximum Salary:$60,300/yr.

Officing:

  • The position is required to be performed in-person at the Workforce Development location and will follow the Agency's schedule for office presence with the opportunity for occasional remote work.
