Job Details:

The Department of Psychiatry at Tufts University School of Medicine and the Tufts Medical Center is recruiting Clinical Psychologist(s) for Inpatient Unit Psychiatry to work at the Lemuel Shattuck Hospital (LSH), a Massachusetts Public Health Hospital in Jamaica Plain. The Inpatient Psychiatry Units at LSH are comprised of five locked units, with a total of 94 patients. Each unit has a census of approximately 19 patients.

The Psychologist will conduct a range of behavioral health services to adults suffering from persistent and severe mental illnesses. Specific job duties include administration of standardized psychological and risk assessments, manualized group education for coping skills, competency restoration, skills training, etc.

Duties and Responsibilities

The Psychologist will be expected to perform the following tasks. For some of these tasks, such as administration of standardized assessments and manualized patient education, training and ongoing supervision will be provided:

  • Learn and administer psychological, forensic, and risk assessments
  • Serve as a liaison between the treatment team and the patients;
  • Gather and compile information from external sources;
  • Draft written reports;
  • Facilitate educational groups with other disciplines for coping skills, competency restoration, and life skills;
  • Timely completion of written assignments;
  • Understanding of HIPAA and importance of privacy of patient data;
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
Job Qualifications:

AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Possesses a strong behavioral background and has training and/or experience in behavior therapy and cognitive behavior therapy.
  • Has experience or training in individual mental health assessments and diagnostic evaluations.
  • Has experience leading behaviorally orientated groups i
  • Possess strong public speaking skills.
  • Has knowledge of the effects of various medications on behavior.
  • Has adequate computer skills and knowledge of general office programs.

EDUCATION:

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or Psy.D.)from an APA-accredited program in clinical psychology required

EXPERIENCE:

  • 1 to 3 years experience including a year of fellowship.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides proficiency in the areas of responsibility listed above, may be substituted for the above education and experience requirements.

LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Licensed as a psychologist in the State of Massachusetts. If not licensed, must be eligible for licensure and obtain licensure within two years of hiring.
