Job Details:

The Clinical Neuropsychologist will serve as part of a multidisciplinary professional team caring for complex children and adolescents with a wide spectrum of developmental disabilities (Autism, Speech and Language Disorders, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Learning Differences, Intellectual Deficits, and Behavioral Concerns). In that capacity, the individual will provide neuropsychological assessment, support, and consultation to patients and families seen within the Center for Children with Special Needs (CCSN) in the Division of Developmental-Behavioral Pediatrics and Department of Pediatrics, Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center. Based on that assessment, the person will collaboratively develop a realistic plan with the CCSN team, family, school, and community agencies.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides direct patient care as a clinical neuropsychologist. Provides neuropsychological and psychological assessment based on the patient's medical and neurodevelopmental history, mental health, early intervention, and school history and records.
  • Provides patient-centered, compassionate care and counseling to patients, family members, and others. Maintains necessary patient records including written assessments and progress notes. Refers patients to other health care providers (physician, psychologist, social worker, etc.) when appropriate. Assists in obtaining mental health referral approval from health insurance organizations when necessary.
  • Assists with the evaluation and improvement of the CCSN program. Modifies existing or develops new teaching tools and curriculum as needed. Performs data analysis to assess program outcomes and assists in writing research papers describing results.
  • Performs necessary administrative duties such as data entry, completing forms, preparing educational handouts, and organizing files.
  • Academic appointment in the Department of Pediatrics and Psychiatry, Tufts Medical Center, and the Tufts University School of Medicine with opportunities to teach students and trainees in Pediatrics, Family Medicine, Pediatric Neurology, Psychiatry,
  • Psychology, Speech and Language, Child Development, and Social Work, and develop clinical research projects.
  • Assists with training of new staff as required. Present to community groups, General Pediatrics department, and other hospital departments as needed.
  • Maintains expertise and licensure in field by attending applicable courses, conferences, and meetings.

Job Qualifications:

AGE SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

  • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout childhood and adolescence, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:
  • Knowledge of growth and development
  • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care
  • Provide age specific communication

JOB KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent clinical and analytical skills needed for assessing patients and developing care plans.
  • Interpersonal skills needed for interacting effectively with patients and their families, students, interns and members of the health care team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Knowledge of outcomes measure processes.
  • Expertise in the psychologic and neuropsychologic assessment of children and adolescents, including preparing reports
  • Proficient with SPSS or SAS and Microsoft Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

EDUCATION:

  • PhD in Clinical Psychology or PsyD required from an accredited school of psychology
  • Two years Post doctoral experience in Pediatric Neuropsychology is required

EXPERIENCE:

  • Previous clinical experience in the treatment of children and adolescents with the wide range of neurodevelopmental disorders and their families in an outpatient and/or inpatient pediatric or mental health setting.
  • Experience in teaching trainees and students from a variety of professional backgrounds.
  • Strong report writing and organizational skills.

LICENSES, ETC.:

  • Current license to practice Clinical Psychology in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Normal office work environment with time spent in an outpatient clinic. Occasional exposure to sick patients.
  • Work requires frequent typing/computer keying.
  • May be required to provide patient assessment in satellite clinics with program expansion.
  • This position is 1.0FTE (40hours/week) with benefits within the CCSN in the Department of Pediatrics.
