The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern to support the Transportation Department's community outreach and public involvement program. Typical initiatives include contributing to outreach and communication efforts related to transportation projects and programs by assisting with the development of publications and media relations, monitoring transportation news, assisting with web and social media content development, and assisting with community outreach activities. Qualified candidates must be attending an accredited college or university while in the position and able to work at the NCTCOG offices in Arlington, Texas. All submittals should include a cover letter summarizing work experience, as well as a current resume.

Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 20 hours per week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Drafting website, social media, and publication content
  • Assisting with design of webpages
  • Reviewing webpages for quality control and accessibility
  • Assisting with the collection and distribution of daily news articles related to transportation
  • Researching new opportunities and best practices for expanding traditional print and online publications and social media efforts
  • Assisting with media relations activities, including press releases and maintenance of the Department's database of reporters
  • Assisting with the maintenance of the transportation library and digital assets
  • Serving as a representative of NCTCOG's goals and mission

Required Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Publisher, Outlook and Teams
  • Ability to communicate complex topics to a variety of audiences, including the general public, elected officials and the media
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills
  • Detail oriented, organized, creative, and have ability to handle multiple tasks and tight deadlines
  • Knowledge of HTML and content management systems
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment

Required Experience
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment
  • No experience required. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired, but not required.

Minimum of $15.00 per hour
