The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking an Intern in the Transit-Oriented Development program to assist with city and regional planning, parking policy, transit-oriented development planning, research, and/or bicycle/pedestrian projects. This position will provide valuable experience in planning for livability and multimodal transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. Ideal candidates should be able to work at least 20 hours a week while attending school.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Assisting with the collection, processing, and analysis of land-use, transportation, and demographic data
  • Counting parking utilization and observations through site visits
  • Assisting with creating and editing maps, and processing of spatial and tabular data utilizing Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS)
  • Compiling, summarizing, and writing reports for studies
  • Preparing public outreach and education materials
  • Drafting presentations
  • Serving as a representative of NCTCOG's goals and mission

Required Skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with Microsoft programs
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems (ESRI ArcGIS)
  • Familiarity with publicly available data sources such as U.S. Census
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and ability to handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to work independently, in a team environment, and in time-sensitive situations

Required Experience
  • Must be attending an accredited college or university during employment. Pursuit of a degree in a related field desired.
  • No work experience required, at least one year of school-related experience desired

Salary

  • Minimum of $15.00 per hour
