The North Central TexasEmergency Communications District(NCT9-1-1) is responsible for 40+Emergency Communications Centers (ECC) in 13 countiessurrounding the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.NCT9-1-1 supports these ECCs through maintaining and upgrading 9-1-1 equipment, providing up-to-date mapping information, training the 9-1-1 Telecommunicators, educating the public on the proper use of 9-1-1, and monitoring ECC functionality and compliances.NCT9-1-1 serves a population of 1.9 million and 10,800+ square miles.


Description of the Opportunity:

The purpose of this position is to design, document, implement, maintain, and support the growing 9-1-1 network infrastructure, including local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), Internet, Intranet, and other wired/wireless voice and data communication systems. This is accomplished by performing complex/detailed analysis on proposed and current network infrastructure; designing and implementing solutions; developing and documenting networking standards and procedures; maintaining network servers, routers, switches and firewalls; coordinating, overseeing, and assisting with the installation of network related hardware and software; providing network related user support; monitoring network performance; and evaluating, selecting, and implementing security tools. This position serves on a team responsible for designing and developing scalable, maintainable, highly available network architectures that meet the objectives and service level agreements (SLAs) of NCT9-1-1.

Job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Configure and install various network devices and services
  • Perform network maintenance and system upgrades
  • Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability
  • Provide support and troubleshoot to resolve issues
  • Install hardware
  • Conduct major studies regarding system usage, make recommendations for improvements, and determine network system requirements
  • Develop materials to support network enhancements
  • Develop acceptance testing and implementation plans for various projects
  • Develop technology roadmaps
  • Analyze existing network and identify inefficiencies and possible solutions
  • Evaluate, select and implement security tools
  • Ensure compliance with national standards

Ideal candidates for this position will possess the following qualities/qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree or higher with working knowledge of:
  • Cisco IOS configuration; OSPF, BGP, EIGRP;
  • Layer 2/3 switching
  • Networking protocols and technologies, including TCP/IP, NetBIOS/WINS, SNMP, DNS, DHCP, SSL, VLAN, and VPN
  • Network monitoring tools
  • Excellent problem solving, debugging/troubleshooting skills
  • WAN solutions: MPLS/VPLS, T1/E1, Broadband (cable, DSL), wireless (3G/4G), Microwave
  • Network security concepts
  • Firewalls, routers, switches and network appliances
  • Over five years up to and including seven years of applicable experience


Required Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience required
