Company Overview
Experience, Business Focus and Value

McGuireWoods is a strong, well-respected and expanding firm with a legacy reaching back more than 175 years. This legacy is a testament to our lawyers’ experience across business and industry, as well as our consistent ability to deliver an excellent legal product — efficiently and at a fair price. Some of our clients have been with us for nearly 50 years, which speaks to the level of service we provide and the mutual loyalty we engender.

Global Reach

McGuireWoods has more than 1,000 lawyers in 23 offices, and our lawyers speak more than 35 languages. We cross borders, practices and industries in the U.S., UK, Belgium and around the world, collaborating with colleagues and managing resources in 128 countries. We have unique cooperative arrangements in China with law firm FuJae Partners, in France with KGA, in Israel with Shenhav Konforti Rotem & Co. (SKR), and in Saudi Arabia with Badr Alarishi. Our international presence is further enhanced by participation in the global legal networks Lex Mundi and LNI.

Value in Management, Discovery and Technology

In 2014, BTI Consulting Group ranked McGuireWoods among the top U.S. firms in its “Brand Elite 18,” based on a survey of corporate counsel regarding legal innovation, value of service and overall strength of legal brand. In fact, BTI named us one of the top four firms to “use technology more effectively or in new ways to add value.” We have embraced legal project management, in the form of ClientSync, to proactively manage and track our work, improve transparency and predictability for our clients, and ultimately deliver excellent client service in a cost-effective, efficient manner. Our document collection and discovery processes are among the most sophisticated and efficient available today. Clients receive not only senior-level, hands-on discovery advice, but also the unique services of in-house professionals experienced in running advanced trial presentation software in front of a jury. We invest significantly in innovative, highly efficient technology.

Value through Alternative Fee Arrangement

Cost always matters — bears or bulls. McGuireWoods is equally innovative in offering value billing arrangements and fee-structuring in alignment with client needs and metrics. More than 51 percent of major firm clients are working with us on the basis of one or more alternative fee arrangements.

Value through McGuireWoods Consulting

Complementing our legal services, McGuireWoods Consulting — our full-service public affairs subsidiary — offers federal, state and local government relations advice; strategic communications; grassroots advocacy; and infrastructure and economic development services. We can help our clients stay ahead of — and even have a voice in — important regulatory developments that affect their businesses.

Service to Clients and the Community

McGuireWoods has built a service culture within our firm that extends to each client contact. As a result, our clients develop an emotional investment in our people and our work. But don’t take our word for it; let our clients speak for us.

In 2014, BTI Consulting Group ranked McGuireWoods for the eighth time among its “Client Service 30” list of law firms serving Fortune 1000 companies. In the report, McGuireWoods is named among the “Leaders of the Best” for the firm’s breadth of services, providing value for the dollar and handling client problems. Besides adding us to its “Client Service A-Team,” BTI also ranked us No. 8 on its 2014 Power Elite list of the top 23 law firms recognized for superior client relationships. These rankings are based on feedback by more than 500 corporate counsel from Global 500 and Fortune 1000 companies spanning more than 15 industry sectors.

A recommendation like this means that our clients are willing to stake their reputations on trust in us — what we do, who we bring to the team, the caliber of technology we employ on their behalf and our business-minded approach to the practice of law. We don’t take that recommendation lightly. With every client and every matter, we strive to surpass expectations and provide service that lets our clients sleep better at night.

At McGuireWoods, we invest not only in our clients and each other, but also in our communities and society. As responsible neighbors, we contribute through a thriving pro bono program, as well as national and local nonprofit volunteerism and fundraising.
